The Tale of Ely Senju

Chapter 1

Hiruzen watched the little girl and wondered what he should do now. He turned to the Anbu who had just entered the room. 'Please tell Kakashi Hatake that I would like to see him.' The Anbu bowed and disappeared in a cloud of smoke. It wasn't long before the door opened and a young Kakashi Hatake entered the room. 'Lord Third, you wanted to see me.' 'Ah, yes. I have a very important task for you.' Kakashi was surprised, as he had just come from a long mission. 'What kind of task is it?' With a grin on his lips and a twinkle in his eye, Hiruzen looked briefly at the little bundle still sleeping peacefully on the pillow. 'Miruke and Mirel were murdered. Mirel gave birth to a daughter just three hours ago. I want you to take her in and protect her. The Uchiha clan must not find out about her, that was one of Mirel's conditions.' Kakashi nodded but wasn't sure how he was supposed to look after a baby. Hiruzen, on the other hand, got up from his chair and walked to the pillow, taking the little bundle in his arms.

As he placed the baby in Kakashi's arms, he said: 'This is Ely Senju. I think you'll get on well together. Now off home with you.' Kakashi walked with the baby to his house. Once there, he walked into his bedroom and discovered that a baby cradle had been placed there. This old man has it thick as a fist behind his ears. He shook his head at the thought but placed the still sleeping baby in the cradle. Then Kakashi also went to bed and, after a long tossing and turning, fell asleep. How was that supposed to work with him and the baby?

The first two years were very quiet. Ely was an easy-care and cheerful baby and Kakashi saw her as a little sister. When he was on missions, Ely was allowed to be with Hiruzen and enjoyed spending time with him. The third Hokage was like a grandfather to the young girl.

Kakashi POV

Another mission behind me. I can hardly wait to pick up Ely from the third Hokage and then go home. When I arrived at the Hokage tower, a broadly grinning Ely was already waiting for me and came stomping towards me. 'Niichan.' With one swing, I had Ely in my arms. She snuggled right up to me, which she always did after my missions. A throat clearing brought me out of my thoughts and I looked to the Hokage. 'Lord Third, the mission was successful. Everything is in this scroll.' The third Hokage gratefully took the scroll from my hand. 'Kakashi, there's something I have to tell you. Please hide your kunai, because the little mouse in your arms has discovered some and started playing with them.' The Hokage looked at Ely with a reprimanding look, who only replied with a mischievous smile. 'There's something else. Ely overheard a conversation in which we talked about her parents and the circumstances that led her to end up with you. When I realised it, she was already sitting on the floor crying and when she opened her eyes again... Kakashi, Ely has awakened the Sharingan, how this could have happened at such a young age, I don't know. I'll figure something out, but please be careful.' Hearing this was not exactly something I expected to hear when I returned.

Ely was very happy to see me again, which made my heart soar. Even though I didn't fancy the whole thing at first, I knew that I would never give Ely up again. She is like a little sister to me, and I would do anything for her.

Together with Ely, who was already dozing off in my arms, I made my way to our home. Once there, I put Ely, who was already asleep, in her bed and then went through the house to hide all the kunai and shuriken so that Ely wouldn't find them. Afterwards, I also went to bed and thought of the Hokage's words. She has awakened her Sharingan.
