The chunin exams were not far away and the three of us trained every day, either together with our sensei or just the three of us. We practised a wide variety of combinations, scenarios and techniques.

In the evening, I still had time to learn new jutsus and I was currently trying out the summoning technique. So, what did the scroll say again? AH, yes. The hand signs let's see: Boar → Dog → Bird → Monkey → Ram and then bite your finger and smear the blood over your palm. I kept my eyes closed and only heard a 'poof'. Then I opened my eyes again and in front of me were a wolf and an eagle.

'Princess, we finally get to meet you. My name is Shadow and the eagle next to me is Taka.' 'Nice to meet you, but why do you call me princess?' 'Oh, it's quite simple. You're the great-granddaughter of the first Hokage. Oh.. I'm afraid I can't think of any other reason at the moment. Ah ha... here's the contract, if you sign it, we'll always appear when you call us.' 'Thank you, Taka and Shadow.' I took the contract and signed it. 'Why was I able to summon you both? And how did you know that I would summon you at some point? Why are you two different species?' Shadow walked next to me and lays down. Taka was still standing in front of me and began to answer my questions. 'Your grandmother Miku Senju was the first person to summon us and you, as her granddaughter, were destined to be the next person to summon us. We live together in the same place and since no one could ever summon us, our ancestors decided that if someone could summon one of us, they would also have to summon the other one. So, you could say that we only come in a pact.' I stroked Shadow through his thick fur and took a closer look at both of them. Taka is a beautiful eagle, but curiously he has light blue eyes. Shadow is a black wolf with a white spot behind his left ear.

After both had explained everything, I needed to know about summoning and who I could summon, they both said goodbye and I thought about which jutsu I could try next. Looking up into the sky, I realised that this would have to wait until next time, because it was already dawn and Kakashi was waiting for me at home. I could hardly wait to tell him about Shadow and Taka.

I ran home as fast as I could and was just about to open the door when I realised that I couldn't detect any chakra coming from the house. So Kakashi wasn't at home. I walked into the living room and found a letter lying on the table.

Hello Ely,

Unfortunately, I had to go on a last-minute mission. Lord Third is waiting for you at the Hokagetower. You'll be staying with him again while I'm away. If I don't make it home before the chunin exams, I wish you the best of luck now. You will great!

Best wishes

Niichan

Well, I'll go straight to the Hokagetower then. On the way there, I saw something green flashing past me. Someone is in for a big disappointment when his archrival isn't at home. Sometimes the two of them behave like children.

When I arrived at the Hokagetower, I ran straight upstairs. Grandfather Sarutobi was already walking towards me. 'Ah, there you are. I was just about to walk to your house to see if you were home.' 'I was training and lost track of the time. After I read the note, I came straight here.'

Now the day of days had arrived, and we were sitting in the exam room for the first stage. Several chunin were sitting against the walls and windows, watching us. In front of us stood our proctor and two other people who were also there to observe us. In front of me was a sheet with several questions that we had to answer. Even though the questions were actually a bit too difficult for our level of knowledge, I had answered them in no time at all and now had to wait. As I sat there waiting for the end of the exam, I thought about everything again. Mh... They don't want to test our knowledge; they want to test our spying skills. Let's see how many of us get kicked out, because if one member of the team gets caught, the whole team will be eliminated. <Ryoko, don't do anything stupid. You can do this.>

The test had been going on for a while and the clock was ticking.

'Drop your pencils, because now comes the last question.' With these words, the chunin exam proctor unveiled the board. Everyone still sitting in the room had passed. YES! The first part is done, but the second won't be much easier. We are now going to the Forest of Death, hopefully we were well prepared.

All the teams were now at the gates of the Forest of Death and Ryoko picked up our scroll. 'So, we have our scroll. We can do this. Nao, Ely, we are very well prepared, and no one will be able to beat us.' The euphoria in his voice could be very infectious. Nao smiled slightly, but I knew she wasn't that excited about it yet.

'So, you little maggots. The next stage is about to start. Don't get yourselves killed. On your marks, get set, GO!!!' Strange woman.

Now the second stage of the chunin exam began and it wasn't going to be easy.
