Chapter 28

Ely POV

The journey to Konoha took longer than I had hoped. We had to stop at every village, and I mean every little village. Tsunade had to pursue her passion for gambling and Jiraiya his 'research'. On the way, I occasionally thought that I could relax in a hot spring, but to be honest, I didn't fancy catching Jiraiya peeping. So, Naruto and I teamed up and did some training together.

We had just arrived at what we hoped was the last small village. Tsunade had gone straight to a bar for her gambling and Jiraiya was heading for the hot spring, so I'd better stay far away from the hot spring too. ''Boah!!! If this keeps up, we'll never get to Konoha. Ely, what should we do now?' 'Why don't we find a clearing and do some more training? What do you think of that idea?' 'Great, let's go then.' This thirst for action. I shook my head slightly, but then followed Naruto. After a bit of walking around and searching, we found the perfect place to train. Naruto trained his Rasengan while I practised my Sharingan and my Taijutsu. We trained until we heard screams. Oh man, this can only be Jiraiya's fault again. What has he done now! 'Did you hear that, Ely?' 'Yes, and I can well imagine what's going on.' Naruto stood in front of me and shook his head. 'That Pervy Sage is just causing trouble.' I had to stifle my laughter again, but Naruto was right. 'Come on, let's see what the other two are doing. We can very well imagine what Jiraiya is doing.'

After we found Shizune, she showed us where we would be sleeping tonight. The next morning, we set off again. Jiraiya with a few more bruises because he had been caught and Tsunade with even more debt. The two of them are supposed to be role models.

We left the last small village that morning and I walked a little away from the group. Always keeping an eye on my surroundings. Tsunade also dropped to the back and now walked beside me. 'He has great willpower.' 'Yes, Naruto has that, but he also has an equally big heart. When he promises something, he does everything he can to keep that promise. Please do the same.' Tsunade looked at me with a surprised expression. 'I heard him ask you to heal Sasuke and Kakashi as well as Lee. You don't have to worry about Kakashi, I was already able to do that. You should know that I've been trying to improve my healing skills in the area of genjutsu injuries over the last few years. I only heard about Sasuke's condition when I left. I would have liked to help Lee too, but the Medic-Nins only said I was too young, had no experience and should keep my hands off it.' 'Don't they know that you were trained by me and are the great-granddaughter of the first Hokage?' 'No, they don't know that you trained me. It doesn't matter now.' Tsunade looked at me more closely for a moment. 'I really thought you could awaken the Byakugō no In.' 'Ehm... I actually already awakened it during our training back then. Just not on my forehead and not in the form you have. In my case, it's in the shape of a heart and is placed above my heart. You can't see it directly, which is good because not many people know about it. Actually, you're the first person I've ever told.' I looked at Tsunade with a slight smile on my lips. She also began to smile. 'You more than surprised and convinced me back then. I'm looking forward to getting to know you even better and training you even more, if that's even possible.' I just nodded and the rest of our walk was relatively quiet, if you ignore the old couple up ahead. Naruto and Jiraiya were arguing the whole time, like an old married couple. What had I got myself into, but soon we'll be back in Konoha.

When the village finally came into sight, I distanced myself from the group unnoticed and took a different route home. I didn't have to be there when the four of them were welcomed. I really didn't need this commotion. As soon as I entered the house, Kakashi came walking towards me. 'Well, were you successful?' I answered him with a smile on my lips. 'Naruto was successful. In the end, it's thanks to him that Konoha has a new Hokage. You should have seen him. He always surprises everyone. I'm so proud to be his best friend.' I could see a smirk through his mask and knew that he too was impressed and proud of the hyper ninja.

Now I'm just curious to see how Tsunade reacts to the fact that I'm part of the ANBU. But I'll worry about that later, for now I want to enjoy the peace and quiet and attend the ceremony.
