The Tale of Ely Senju

Chapter 35

Ely POV

Several weeks have passed since the day Sasuke left the village, and a lot has happened. Naruto has set off on a three-year training trip with Jiraiya, even though I think Jiraiya is also using this as an excuse for his peeping Tom actions. The farewell between Naruto and me was very tearful. I will miss him immensely, but I also know that he has to go on this training trip. He's determined to get Sasuke back. Let's hope for Sasuke's sake that he doesn't run into me before Naruto can change his mind. Sakura has started her training under Tsunade, and I already feel really sorry for her. Tsunade isn't exactly gentle with Sakura, but I believe in her and I'm sure that Sakura will manage.

Sakura and I are sitting on a bench watching the calm water when we suddenly hear loud noises. 'What's going on?' I turned in the direction Sakura was pointing and just shook my head. 'Just ignore them. That's Kakashi and Guy. Sometimes they act like children with their rivalry.' Sakura looked at me briefly and tilted her head. 'You've been on ANBU missions for the last few weeks. Have you slept enough at all?' Surprised, I looked at my best friend. 'A little. Don't worry about that, Tsunade has released me from ANBU duty for the time being because she thinks I'm doing too many difficult missions at the moment.' 'She's not wrong. Ely, you've only just turned 12 years old. You're an ANBU captain and a jonin. You can slow down for once. I'm just worried about you. What if you're on a mission and way too exhausted and then something happens to you? I could never forgive myself for that and I don't think Naruto could either.' 'I'm sorry for causing you such worry. I didn't mean to.' After this short conversation, a pleasant silence returned. We met here as often as possible, as Sakura seemed to be able to switch off well here.

Some time later, I was making my way home when I was almost run over by Guy and Kakashi. The two of them are really overdoing it today. 'Can't you guys watch out!' 'Don't be like that. I have to show my rival the power of my youth.' I've really had enough of these two kids. They both turned to me again and at that moment I had them trapped in my genjutsu. 'Hey, that's not fair. Let us back out.' I was so angry with them right now. I stood up in front of them and started.

'HAVE YOU TWO LOST YOUR MINDS? YOU ARE SUCH IDIOTS! YOU'RE JUST OVERDOING IT AT THE MOMENT! LAST WEEK YOU TRAMPLED MY BEAUTIFUL FLOWERBED; BEFORE THAT YOU DESTROYED THE FRESHLY PAINTED FENCE AND BEFORE THAT YOU RAN ME OVER. I WAS EXHAUSTED AND JUST WANTED TO SLEEP AND THEN YOU BOTH CAME RUNNING LIKE A HERD OF WILD BUFFALO. THAT'S ENOUGH! ONE MORE ACTION LIKE THAT AND YOU'LL REALLY GET TO KNOW ME. UNDERSTAND?!'

After my outburst, I let the two of them out of the genjutsu and walked home. I didn't even care that they were standing there in shock. I just wanted to go to bed and sleep. When I got home, I walked straight to my room, changed quickly and fell onto my bed. Snuggled up in the blankets, I fell asleep very quickly. It was high time. The next morning, I headed to the training ground where Tsunade was training with Sakura. I sat down under a tree and watched the two of them. You could clearly see that Sakura was still a long way from being able to stand up to Tsunade. It wasn't long before I dozed off.

Tsunade POV

'You are making progress. Small, but you are making some. Let's finish this part of the training for today. I'm sure Shizune is already waiting for you to help you revive the fish.' 'All right. I'll be on my way.' When Sakura had left the training grounds, I walked towards Ely. 'You really are very exhausted. Did you sleep at all last night?' 'Yes, I slept through the night, but I think my body is just getting everything back that I've denied it for the last few weeks.' I knew exactly why she went on all those missions. She misses Naruto and is trying to distract herself. 'What do you say we both go out for a nice dinner tonight. Think of it as family time. Just the two of us. What do you think?' 'I would be very happy about it.' 'Good, then we've sorted this out and I'll see you tonight.'

Ely POV

Let's see what happens tonight. I hope she doesn't get drunk again. I'm not in the mood for that. What have I let myself in for?
