Chapter 20

Ely POV

A few days later, after an intensive training session with Kakashi, I was sitting on training ground 4. 'Didn't you have any missions or training today?' 'No. You know that the chunin exams will take place soon and Kurenei, Asuma and I have proposed our teams. Iruka didn't necessarily agree and wanted the nine of them to be tested first. This is to take place today. That's why I gave Sakura, Naruto and Sasuke the go-ahead.' 'Iruka is too anxious in that regard. I think if he had been our teacher back then, he would most likely have had a heart attack at our age. You are the sensei now and know what your students can and can't do. But I also believe that he has to see for himself in order to recognise it.' Kakashi looked at me with a surprised expression. 'I'm not even going to ask how you know that. But now something else, how excited are you?' 'To be honest, I'm not really that excited. I'm more curious to see how my new team members will react. Hopefully I won't have deja vu.' I watched the clouds thoughtfully. I didn't notice how Kakashi stood up and was now standing in front of me. 'Ely, look at me! You're one of the most talented and hard-working kunoichi I've ever seen. You are my little sister, even if we are not related by blood, you are definitely my sister. I firmly believe in you and your abilities and if your new team members don't want to see this, then that's their loss. There is no greater asset for the ANBU than you. You will go your own way, and you will show those who doubt you that you are always a force to be reckoned with.' I had already stood up during his speech and now fell around his neck. 'Thank you! You're the best big brother anyone could wish for.' We stood there for a while until Kakashi had to say goodbye to find out how his team had done.

At home, I changed into my ANBU clothes and went to the headquarters, where I got the ANBU tattoo. An older woman came up to me. 'Hello Sanna. I will accompany you to your new team and explain your mission.' 'Thank you.' Together we walked into another, larger room where five ANBU members were already standing. 'Listen up, everyone! This is Sanna, she's your new team member.' I stood next to the five and heard them whispering amongst themselves. 'She's far too young.' 'What's she supposed to be able to do?' 'Are we supposed to babysit now?' I tried to ignore these comments and questions. I was here to fulfil missions, not to make friends. I listened carefully to the information about the mission and after our briefing we set off.

Kakashi POV

She was right again. Iruka had to make sure. It's a shame that she's already on her mission, because I think she would be very happy with Naruto. An unusual friendship. Now I have to wait and see if all three of them really will come to the registration room. If only Naruto and Sasuke turn up, the exam is already over. My thoughts briefly wandered to Ely. I'm incredibly proud of her for taking this path, but I'm also worried. I know how I felt after Obito and Rin died and I'm afraid that she'll suppress her feelings and perhaps isolate herself at some point.

Ely POV

Once we arrived at the base, we all went to our respective positions. As this is my first mission as an ANBU, my job is to stay in the background and observe. So, I stood at my post, my Sharingan activated, and looked around. The rest of the group went to the hiding place we were to investigate. I closed my eyes briefly and realised that there were several foreign chakras in the hiding place. So, it was not deserted, as we had been told. If I interpreted it correctly, there were 15 foreign chakra signatures. I tried to warn my teammates via the headset but fell on deaf ears. Dammit!

No One's POV

The five ANBU members who had entered the hiding place noticed the enemy shinobi in time and ran outside as fast as they could. The enemy chased the ANBU members outside and confronted them. Using shuriken and kunai, the enemy were able to mortally wound two of the ANBU members as they ran out. Now the remaining three ANBU faced the enemy. Ely, who had been watching the whole thing, now jumped in front of her three remaining team-mates. She turned round briefly. 'Are you all right?' 'Yes, we're not hurt.' The three ANBU felt guilty because they had simply ignored the warning.

Ely POV

15 shinobi, this should be easy. I had already activated my Sharingan from the start. <Concentration and go> My Sharingan glowed blood red and then I heard the group say, 'A red rose. Where did it come from?' Bam! With Flying Thunder God Technique, I darted through the group and stopped behind them. 'Jutsu of the deadly rose.' The group dropped dead. At that moment, The Deadly Rose was born, because what we didn't know or hadn't realised was that one of the enemy shinobi could sneak away.

I ran to my team-mates and stopped in front of the three. 'Are you injured?' 'No, we're not injured. Thank you, we were biased and judged you without knowing you. You saved us.' 'I didn't do much, just used a jutsu.' One of the three looked briefly at the shinobi lying on the ground and then turned back to us. 'We need to go back to the hideout and investigate.' 'Shouta and Yuuta, you two go in and investigate the hiding place. Sanna and I will stay and wait for you. If there's anything, holler.' Shouta and Yuuta nodded and went into the hiding place.

The first mission and already two teammates' dead, will this continue?
