The Tonight Show had invited us to confirm the swirling rumors. Jungkook believed it was the right move, especially for Evie. I understood his reasoning, but part of me wished we could have just posted something on social media or let the gossip fade. Yet, Evie had been asking questions about things she overheard from his mother—questions about love, our marriage, and whether it was fake. Explaining everything to her had been hard, but she seemed to understand now. She knew we loved each other, even if it hadn’t been clear from the start.
"I'm so nervous," I admitted, taking deep breaths to calm myself.
"You don’t need to be, baby," Jungkook reassured me, pressing a kiss to my cheek. "If it helps, I’ll do most of the talking."
I smiled despite my nerves. "You’re amazing."
He chuckled softly. "You’re more beautiful than ever, mi amor."
As the show began, Jungkook held my hand tightly. "For our next guests, we have Mr. and Mrs. Jeon—if they really are," the host quipped, earning laughs from the audience. The joke wasn’t funny to me, but I smiled politely.
We walked onto the stage and sat down. My nervousness must have been obvious because Jungkook squeezed my hand in silent support.
"So, here you are again," the host began. "It’s been, what, a year since your last appearance?"
Jungkook nodded.
"Who would’ve guessed that back then, you weren’t in love?" he said, pausing to gauge our reactions.
Jungkook smiled calmly. "It’s not that we weren’t in love. Our feelings were just... complicated."
"Interesting," the host replied. "So, what brought about the marriage contract?"
I could feel the weight of the audience’s eyes on me. Judgments hung in the air. Words like gold digger and opportunist seemed to linger unspoken. Jungkook sensed my discomfort and spoke up.
"My father’s will required me to marry before inheriting the company," he explained. "I used the opportunity to tie her down because, honestly, she wasn’t too keen on marrying me at the time."
The audience chuckled lightly. The host turned to me with a probing look. "You have a daughter together. Did you know about her before the wedding, Mr. Jeon?"
Jungkook shook his head. "No, I didn’t."
"Mrs. Jeon, why didn’t you tell him?"
My heart pounded. Why was it always me who had to explain? What was I supposed to say? Finally, I spoke, my voice steady but firm.
"We had a terrible breakup. At the time, I was pregnant and decided to raise our daughter alone. Things between us were unstable, and I didn’t want to complicate them further."
The host nodded thoughtfully. "How does it feel, Jungkook, knowing you missed out on her early years?"
Jungkook’s expression softened. "It’s sad, but what matters is that we’re together now."
"And you, Mrs. Jeon, how did it feel to face teenage pregnancy alone?"
I tensed at his phrasing but answered honestly. "It wasn’t easy, especially raising a child without support. But I cherished every moment with my daughter."
"Do you have any advice for single mothers?"
I smiled, remembering the struggles and triumphs. "It’s hard, but it’s worth it. Support from loved ones makes all the difference. And for single moms who think they’ll never find love again, that’s not true. Someone will love you and your child. Just focus on being the best parent you can be."
"Beautifully said," the host remarked.
Inspired by the moment, I added, "I’m planning to host a charity event to support single mothers, especially teenage girls."
The audience clapped warmly, and Jungkook beamed at me. "I’m so proud of you," he said, squeezing my hand.
The interview continued with lighter questions, and by the end, I felt a sense of relief. In the car afterward, I exhaled deeply.
"It wasn’t so bad," Jungkook said, grinning.
"No, it wasn’t," I admitted. "It feels good to have cleared the air."
"And your idea for the charity is incredible. I’m so proud of you." He kissed my cheek, making me blush.
Later that evening, a chilling text came through from an unknown number: "You must think you’ve outsmarted me. Your daughter isn’t as safe as you think."
Panic gripped me. Jungkook immediately noticed my expression. "What’s wrong?"
I showed him the message, and his jaw tightened.
"He's not going to hurt her," Jungkook said firmly, pulling me into a protective embrace. "I’ll tighten security. We won’t let her out of our sight."
Evie’s laughter suddenly filled the room as she walked in, munching popcorn. Her innocence momentarily eased my fear.
"Come here, sweetie," I said, pulling her into a hug.
"I love you, Mommy and Daddy," she said, her small arms wrapping around us.
Tears filled my eyes. I couldn’t lose her. "I love you too, baby," I whispered, holding her tighter.
As the days passed, Evie’s birthday became the focus. She decided on a theme involving fairies, princesses, and mermaids. We hired an event planner, and Evie was thrilled to choose everything herself.
That night, I found Jungkook in his study, immersed in work. The sight of him—tie loosened, glasses on—made my heart flutter.
"You should rest," I said, stepping into the room.
"Not when I have you," he replied with a smirk.
"How about I help you relax?" I teased, trailing my fingers over his shoulders.
After a tender moment, I blurted, "I love you."
He looked up, surprised.
"I mean it," I continued. "I never stopped. I’m done holding on to guilt and anger. I want us to move forward. I love you, Jungkook, more than words can say."
His eyes softened. "I love you too, Y/N. You’re my everything. Thank you for giving me another chance."
Our lips met in a kiss that felt like the start of forever.
