Pae's POV 

It's been about a month since the last trial. I am 16 weeks pregnant I guess the baby is the size of an avocado. Owen keeps telling me how big the baby is with fruits and vegetables surprisingly it helps me know how big it is. oh and Kai is leaving.  

the last trial was canceled, whatever Kai said or did to Kitt a few weeks ago worked. Mak moved back to the slums, I think he got a new house. Octavia still lives in the castle with Jax, Russell went to live at his parents house again and Andy is still living in the castle. 

Kai is leaving the castle for a few weeks. almost half of the city of Dor has burnt down, we don't know if the people started the fires or if natural causes started them but Kai is going with two dozen imperials to help. I want to go with him but all the smoke that is going to be in the city is too dangerous for me right now, and the trip through the scorches would be bad for me and the baby as well. so here I am laying in my husband's arms and I won't be able to do this for weeks.

I wish he wasn't going but Kitt is making him, probably on purpose... no, definitely on purpose.  

It's snowing outside again so me and Kai are snuggled up in bed under lots of soft blankets. he is sitting with his back on the headboard of the bed and I am curled up on his lap. he has his arms around me one hand softly rubbing up and down my back. we have been like this for the last hour, not talking just sitting here. 

"I love you, you know that?" he whispers against my hair kissing my heart gently. 

"I know" I whisper back "and I love you too"

we are silent for a moment just listening to the fire crack and the wind outside blow. I hated winters when I was living in the slums it was always so cold and I was always hungry many babies die in the winter and now that I am going to be a mom I know how hard that must have been. that is something I have been trying to convince Kitt to help with but he won't even look at me. I want to bring blankets to people who need them and food and hopefully build places where people can stay who can't afford a home of their own. 

I wish Kitt would actually do something to help his people instead he is becoming just like his father, only caring about himself and nobody else.  

"Pae?" Kai whispers bringing me out of my thoughts and moving my face so I can look at him. 

he looks at me but doesn't say anything. "what?" I ask looking into his eyes 

"oh nothing, I just wanted to get your attention" he says with a smile as he brushes hair out of my face. I can see him admiring my hair which has grown a lot since he cut it. "It's getting really long" he says looking back into my eyes.  

"yeah well that's what happens when you're pregnant. your hair and nails grow faster" I say. Owen has taught me a lot about pregnancy, I guess his wife was pregnant 8 times so he knows a lot about it. his children are all grown now and having their own children, he has told me a lot about his 5 sons and 3 daughters. I can tell he loves them a lot. "do you like it better when it is long or when it is short?" I ask Kai

"darling you could be balled and I would still see you as the most beautiful woman in the world. I don't care if your hair is long or short, as long as I get to look at your beautiful face and see those beautiful eyes I will be happy" he says 

It's probably hormones because I have been so emotional lately but I start crying at his words. he laughs and hugs me tightly as I cry into his chest. "no one has ever said something so nice to me in my life" I cry even though that's probably a lie. 

 "I know. I'm the best" he says still laughing. 

"don't laugh at me. It's your fault I'm so emotional, you're the one who put this damn baby in my" I say still crying as I bury my face in his chest, feeling his warm skin against my face.

"yeah I know I'm the one who put it there.... it was really fun" he laughs harder when I slap his arm sitting up so I am looking at him again. "don't cry" he says with a smile as he gently wipes the tears from my eyes. "I love you"

"I love you too" I say back as my crying stops

"say it" he says 

"say what?" 

"that you love me more" he smirks 

I smile and move in to whisper in his ear. "why do you want me to?" 

"because it will give me an excuse to do evil things to you" he whispers back in my ear. 

"I love you..... too" I laugh as he suddenly flips me on my back. 

"you little tease" he says looking down at me. "say it" he leans in and begins kissing my neck. when I don't answer he sucks on my sweet spot "say it now" 

I roll my eyes with a big smile. "I love you more" 

Kai smirks at me "finally I thought you would never say it." he sits up and pulls my shirt off before putting his lips right where my baby bump is. "hey little one, close your eyes I am about to do very naughty things to your mommy and I don't want you seeing this."

(the next morning) 

"I'll be back as soon as I can, I promise" Kai says kissing the top of my head. 

we are standing outside the castle. the cold winter air is blowing on me making me shiver but Kai's warm lips are making me feel better. the imperials are waiting a few on horses and one of them holding the reins of the horse Kai will be riding.

"stay safe, don't do anything stupid and come home" I tell him 

"I will. see Owen if anything even feels slightly wrong, stay inside so you can be warm, rest a lot, eat enough food and try not to give birth while I am gone" he tells me

"Kai unless you plan on coming home in 5 months I think that last part is confirmed that it wont happen" I say 

"yeah ok whatever" he crouches down on one knee and kisses my stomach "you be good to your mom and don't give her a hard time" he says before standing back up and giving me a long kiss on the lips. he rests his forehead against mine for a few seconds before giving me one last kiss and hug, then walks over to his horse and gets on it. "I love you" he says 

"I love you too" I say to him and I wave as he starts to ride off in the direction of the scorches. "be careful please" I say quietly knowing he can't hear me.
