Rhythm's POV
As soon as I heard her voice, my head snapped toward the door. Kane. It was like time stopped for a moment. She was the daughter of uncle Steph and uncle Matthew, from my uncle Nat's family, Kirigun—a family known for their elegance and influence and we call each other as cousins.
"Kane!" I said, not caring about the curious stares from my classmates.
She looked exactly the same—beautiful, confident, and radiating that unshakable energy she always had. Without thinking, I closed the distance between us and wrapped my arms around her. It had been so long since I'd seen her, and for a moment, I forgot about everything else.
"Rhythm," she said softly, her laugh warm as it reached my ears.
Her hug felt familiar, comforting, and safe. It reminded me of all the good times we'd shared growing up. "What are you doing here?" I asked, pulling back just enough to look at her.
"I'm here for surprise visit," she said with that signature smile that could light up a room. "And for a gossip from Cei." Well, as always. For a second, I felt like the same kid who used to follow her around, eager to hear her stories about the places she'd been. I admire his boldness and fearlessness. Well, it makes sense since his parents are the same way, especially Uncle Matthew.
But then I felt it—a strange sensation at the back of my neck. I turned slightly and caught a glimpse of Ada in my peripheral vision. He was sitting stiffly in his chair, his eyes on us, though he quickly looked away when I glanced at him.
I could feel the eyes of the class on us, curious and whispering, but I ignored them. Kane had that effect on people—a magnetic energy that drew attention without her even trying. She stepped into the classroom, glancing around with a polite but detached air.
"So this is where you hide all day," Kane teased, nudging me lightly.
I smirked. "It's school, Kane. Not exactly a hiding place."
Ada was sitting quietly in his seat, clutching his pen a little tighter than usual. I caught his expression—subtle, but I could tell he was curious, maybe even a bit bothered. It wasn't hard to notice the slight crease in his brows when Kane leaned a little closer to me.
"Where?" Kane asked,
"Where what?" I'm confused. Her gaze falling on Ada. She approached him.
I hesitated for a moment before replying. "This is Ada. We're... ."
"Fiance... Yes! Rhy. Don't rub it to my face that I'm single." She giggle. Ada looked up quickly, giving her a polite nod. "Hi. Nice to meet you."
Kane studied him for a moment, her sharp eyes taking in every detail. Then she smiled, a knowing glint in her eyes. "Ah, so this is Ada. The name I've heard a couple of times." Then he pinched his cheek. "You're beautiful. Cei was right." He added. " Welcome to the family." and he hug him. I felt my chest tighten. What had she heard? I shot her a warning look, but she only grinned wider, clearly enjoying my discomfort.
"Don't mind her," I said, turning back to Ada. "She likes to joke around."
Ada gave a nervous laugh, but I could see his grip on the pen tighten again. "It's fine," he said softly, but his tone was distant.
Before I could say anything more, Kane clapped her hands together. "Well, I won't stay long—I just wanted to check in on my dear cousin and his partner. I'll let you get back to being the 'Ice Prince' of this school."
