Ada's POV:
I couldn't look at Rhythm.
Not when the doctor's words were still ringing in my ears.
I didn't say a word the whole ride. My fingers kept tightening on the seatbelt, staring out the car window as the city blurred past. My chest felt tight — not just from the morning's doctor visit, but from everything crashing down on me all at once.
Pregnant.
That word echoed in my head over and over. I knew it was possible — I've always known, we all known that i can I have the ability to get pregnant. Like mommy Gulf, that's why I'm taking my pills — but after five years of being apart from Rhythm, after stopping the pills, and everything that happened between us in that office that tday... I never thought this would be the result.
"Baby..." Rhythm's voice was soft, breaking through my thoughts. He slowed the car a little and glanced at me. "What do you feel? Tell me. Anything. Please."
I swallowed hard, my throat dry. My voice came out barely above a whisper. "I'm okay..."
But I couldn't look at him. My eyes stayed fixed on the glass, watching my own faint reflection. I didn't want him to see how scared I was.
Rhythm must have noticed, though, because suddenly, the car stopped on the side of the road. He turned toward me, gently cupping my cheeks so I had no choice but to meet his eyes.
"Ada," he said softly, his thumbs brushing my skin. "You don't have to pretend with me. I know you're shocked. I know you're scared. But I need you to know — I'm here. I'm not going anywhere. You and our baby — you're my world now. I'll do everything to take care of you."
My eyes stung. My heart wanted to believe him, but my mind was still a storm. "Rhythm... we don't have to be together just because of this baby," I whispered, my voice trembling. "We can both raise this child. We can co-parent."
I saw his expression flicker — shock, hurt — but he quickly composed himself. "Yeah," he said after a long pause. "We can. I know." His voice softened even more. "I'm sorry for pushing you to take me back. I just... I love you, Ada. But I promise, no matter what, I'm always here. For you. For Aiden. For this baby."
I looked away again, heart aching, and let the silence hang between us as he started the car again.
When we reached the mansion, I wasn't ready to face anyone — but the moment we stepped in, my heart nearly jumped out of my chest. Everyone was there.
"Finally!" Mommy Gulf said, standing up with an excited grin. "How's the result? How's the baby?"
I froze. "Mommy... how did you—"
Mommy Gulf chuckled, walking toward me. "Sweetheart, I know everything about my children. You think you can hide this from me?"
