Ada’s POV
I never thought I’d do something like that — not with him. Not after everything.
I gripped the steering wheel tighter as I replayed what happened earlier in Rhythm’s office. My stomach twisted with anger and shame. I was so furious at him, so ready to fight and tell him I was done… But instead, I gave in. Again.
I hated him for cornering me like that.
But I hated myself even more for letting him.
This wasn’t the conversation I imagined we’d have. This wasn’t the closure I thought I’d get. Instead, I walked out of there feeling more confused than ever — my lips swollen, my body aching, my heart torn into pieces.
After our heated argument yesterday, I finally gathered the courage to pass my resignation letter to Mommy Gulf. I thought leaving was the only way to finally breathe. The only way to protect my son — and myself — from the storm that Rhythm brings every time he’s near.
This morning, Mommy Gulf called me into his study when Aiden and I went to the mansion earlier. Just the two of us.
“Ada, sweetheart,” she began, her tone gentle but firm. “Don’t make this decision so quickly. Please think about it carefully.”
I couldn’t meet her eyes. “Mom, I can’t stay. I can’t keep doing this. Every single day feels like a warzone — with him, with myself. I can’t breathe anymore.”
He reached out and took my hand. “I already scolded Rhythm last night. He was wrong, Ada. He knows it. And I promise you, I’ll make sure he never humiliates you like that again.”
His words should have comforted me, but all they did was make me feel worse.
“Mom…” My voice cracked. “I’m tired. I really am.”
Ceidence joined us a few minutes later. Ceidence crouched in front of me, his usual playful grin nowhere to be found.
“Please don’t resign, Ada,” he said softly. “Don’t let him push you out of what you worked so hard for. You belong here — not because of him, but because you earned it.”
I swallowed hard, staring at the floor.
“And please,” Ceidence added, “bring Aiden back to the mansion always. Treycie cries every night because she misses her best friend. The house feels empty without him. And, honestly… I think it would help you too. Being here.”
I nodded weakly, unable to argue.
I could feel their sincerity, their love for me and my son — and it made my chest ache.
But the truth was, no matter how much I tried to stay strong, no matter how much I convinced myself I could handle this… every time Rhythm is near, my resolve crumbles.
And that terrified me more than anything.
I gripped the steering wheel tighter, my knuckles almost white.
“Damn it, Ada,” I muttered under my breath. “You’re such an idiot.”
What just happened back in Rhythm’s office kept replaying in my head like a broken record. I didn’t expect that confrontation to end like that. I went angry, livid, ready to argue, ready to walk away from everything. But instead… I gave in. Again.
The memory of his hands, his lips, the desperation in his kiss — I shook my head hard. “No, no, no. Stop thinking about it!” I hissed to myself. My cheeks burned in shame.
