Author's POV:
When Ada reached home, his mother immediately noticed his swollen eyes.
“Son, you’re home early,” she said warmly. “Do you want to eat? I made your favorite soup.”
Ada shook his head. “No, Mom. I’m not hungry.”
He rushed to his room, locked the door, and buried his face in the pillow. The tears he had been holding back finally burst out, sobs shaking his chest.
Moments later, there was a knock. “Ada?”
He didn’t respond, but the door creaked open anyway. His mother walked in, sat on the edge of his bed, and gently rubbed his back.
“What happened, baby?” she asked softly.
Ada lifted his face, eyes red and glistening. “Mom…” His voice broke as he cried harder.
His mother held him quietly until he calmed down a little. Then she spoke with gentle firmness.
“Ada, relationships are never easy. Rhythm grew up in a different world from yours. He was raised with everything—wealth, status, and control. That is the lifestyle he knows. You, on the other hand, worked hard to build yourself up, step by step. You are different. But difference doesn’t mean you can’t work. It means you must learn how to understand each other.”
Ada sniffed, listening closely.
“Every couple has ups and downs,” his mom continued. “What matters most is that you both choose each other again and again. Support him when he struggles with his father. And ask for his support when you need space. Love alone is not enough—it’s trust, patience, and understanding that will keep you strong.”
Ada clung to her, his tears soaking her blouse. “Mom… I don’t want to lose him.”
“Then fight for him, but fight with wisdom, not with anger,” she said, kissing his forehead.
Later that night, after his mother left, Ada cried again until exhaustion pulled him into sleep.
Two days later, They didn’t see each other for two days. Both were buried in internships and projects.
Still, flowers arrived for Ada—bright bouquets every morning. Attached notes written in Rhythm’s messy scrawl said, “I miss you. I’m sorry. Please forgive me.”
Ada smiled faintly at them, his heart softening. He knew Rhythm couldn’t come, but the gestures spoke louder than words.
Finally, Ada refreshed his mind. I’m ready to reconcile, he thought. I’ll go back to our condo tonight.
Before he could leave early, his department head gathered everyone for a small celebration.
“Let’s take a moment,” the head said, raising a glass, “to appreciate Ada Everknight. We all know who he is—the future son-in-law of our Chairman’s family - and soon to be our boss as well. We’re proud of you, Ada.”
The group clapped. Ada’s cheeks burned with shyness. “Please, sir, don’t treat me differently. I’m just an intern like everyone else.”
They only smiled knowingly. “Your humility is why we admire you even more.”
Ada laughed nervously, sipping the juice they offered him. He drank several glasses throughout the evening.
