Ada's POV:
I woke up to the sound of soft waves from outside and the faint smell of coffee. My head throbbed lightly, not painfully, just enough to remind me of the long night before. For a moment, I just lay there, staring at the ceiling, trying to gather my thoughts.
The last thing I remembered was sitting in Rhythm's car, filling the silence between us as we drove home. After that... nothing.
I pushed myself up slowly, blinking when I realized I was wearing my pajamas. I didn't even remember changing.
"Rhythm must've..." I muttered to myself, my chest tightening at the thought of him carrying me to bed like he used to years ago.
Before getting too lost in the thought, I shook my head and got up, heading to the bathroom. My reflection in the mirror looked pale, tired — though not as bad as last week. The last few days had been strange; I'd been unusually sleepy, my head aching at random moments. There were days I felt nauseous for no reason, and even walking up the stairs left me breathless.
I had agreed what Rhythm said yesterday — maybe it was time to visit the doctor, just to be sure nothing was seriously wrong.
After a quick shower, I dressed neatly for work, tying my hair back and slipping into my usual button-up shirt. My stomach grumbled faintly, reminding me that I hadn't eaten much last night.
When I stepped out of my room and headed toward the kitchen, I froze at the doorway.
Rhythm was there, standing by the stove, sleeves rolled up, cooking like we used to be. The smell of fried eggs and toasted bread filled the room. Aiden was already sitting at the table, his little feet swinging back and forth as he munched on a piece of bread.
"Mommy!" Aiden beamed when he saw me, jumping off his chair and running to hug my legs. "Are you okay now, mommy?"
I smiled softly and ruffled his hair. "Good morning, baby. Yes, I'm fine now."
Rhythm turned, his face calm but with that soft look he only showed me when no one else was watching. "Morning," he said, voice gentle. "How are you feeling?"
I hesitated before answering. "Better," I admitted quietly. "My head doesn't hurt as much today."
"Good," Rhythm nodded, then turned back to the stove to plate the food. "Eat first before work. I don't want you skipping breakfast."
I sat down at the table, Aiden climbing back onto his chair beside me. For a moment, it felt... almost like before — when mornings used to be like this, the three of us sharing a quiet meal.
Rhythm set the plates down and sat across from me. We ate in silence, the only sound coming from Aiden humming softly while eating his eggs.
I caught myself glancing at Rhythm a few times, noticing how careful he was — how he didn't push me with questions or try to force a conversation. Just his quiet presence felt... steady. Maybe, if we hadn't separated, we would be like this now.
