Rhythm POV:
Class was dragging. My notes were half-finished, and the professor's voice sounded more like static in my ears. I wasn't thinking about the lesson anyway. All I could picture was Ada, probably struggling to keep his eyes open in class. He'd been sore this morning. I shouldn't have pushed him last night... but I couldn't resist when he asked for more. Now I regret it. He didn't even get proper sleep.
"Hey, Rhythm," Nicki's voice cut into my thoughts. He leaned toward me with a grin. "Did you see the new transfer student? She's already a campus crush."
I didn't even bother looking at him. "Not interested."
Nicki chuckled. "Come on. Everyone's saying she has a crush on you. Word is spreading fast."
I clenched my jaw, still not turning. "So?"
"So?" Nicki pressed. "You're really not even curious? She's gorgeous. The whole class can't stop talking about her."
That was enough. I finally turned, fixing him with a cold glare.
"I don't care about her. Or anyone else. I already have Ada—you know that. Everyone knows that. I don't give a damn if it's a 'he' or a 'she.'"
The words came out sharper than I intended, but it shut him up. Nicki blinked, startled, before looking away.
When class ended, I ignored him completely. My phone buzzed the moment I stepped into the hallway. It was Ada.
💬Ada: Love, I can't wait for you after class. Body ache. Just buy me food, please.
My chest tightened. He must really be tired. I didn't waste time and headed straight to our favorite café, ordering his usual snack and something warm to drink. I was just about to pay when I heard a voice behind me.
"Hi, Rhythm."
I turned slightly. It was the new transferee—Anggie. I ignored him and went back to my order, but he followed me out of the café.
"Hey, wait. I just wanted to introduce myself," Anggie insisted, stepping in front of me to block my path.
I stopped, staring at him blankly. "Move."
He smiled like he didn't hear me. "I'm Anggie Muller. Our parents are friends, you know. Which means... soon, maybe we'll even be more than friends. Husband and wife."
My grip tightened on the paper bag in my hand. I could already hear the whispers around us. Students had their phones out, snapping pictures, recording like it was some kind of show.
I exhaled sharply, my voice low but dangerous. "Listen carefully. That will never happen. Even if our parents are friends, even if they have business together—that doesn't mean we're friends. And it sure as hell doesn't mean we'll ever be married."
