Vincent Mc Garden
"Now, kindly explain what you are doing here." I didn't intend to make it sound harsh but my tongue's itching to spill the words since this early morning.
A heavy silence still the both of us; deciding to dart my eyes out the window instead and watch as the blurry colourful of the surroundings' past my eyes as the car slowly went to slow down and pulling completely right outside the front of my condominium building.
It's just two in the afternoon, clearly the Sports Fest is still on-going but I'm already here, ditching the said event because of ruined mood.
I don't want him to give me a ride home though – that would be the last thing I would ever allow him to do this very moment – but when you have five other pair of observing eyes, watching your reaction over the offer since they've known the both of you as 'friends', you'll left with no choice but say a clipped, halfhearted 'yes'. And so, everything was settled in our current situation.
A heavy sigh left his lips and for once, I was tempted to look at him to watch how his face scrunched, deflating from my words.
"I'm here simply because I wanted to make it up to you," he said casually, so casual that if I ever hadn't pay keen attention I'd probably missed out the fear and sadness underlying his tone.
But I am Vincent and he's King, and we could tell who's on the other side of the door even with just a faint sound from each other.
My arms automatically went up to cross over my chest, raising a brow but still stubbornly refusing to take a glance of the boy. "Make it up to me what?" I echoed, mocking.
"Everything. For all the years I wasn't on your side," he paused a little and that made me took a sneaky glance from the corner of my eyes, "for all the years you wasn't with me."
I had to bit my bottom lip when an audible sharp intake of breath left my throat, cursing myself mentally over the dumb reaction past my system.
"Vincent," he calls softly, "My Vincent."
"Enough, King." I said sternly, finality embracing my words.
"Hindi ko nasabi sa'yo kanina but I'm really sorry. I'm sorry if I had to leave you like that. I know I'm a jerk for doing that, leaving a girl hanging, without a single word and completely cutting all the contacts possible. I'm sorry for appearing and disappearing in the time you least expected it. But I don't have a choice. I don't have. And if..."
I was confused for a moment when he abruptly cut himself, sentence hanging. And so I did what I really wanted to do from hours back – not that I would admit it to anyone – and crane my neck to look at him, slightly regretting the decision when I was suddenly met by a pair of droopy, almost melancholy brown orbs. Expressions foreign even to my own eyes.
And so I had to gulp, trying to wet the surprising dryness in my throat by the alien sight.
"And if?" It was a second too late before I even realized the words I spat, voice slightly wavering from the utter curiousity.
A small smile slowly painted his lips, eyes lit up from the idea of me paying close attention to all the talking he's done.
Goodness gracious.
"Don't you dare open your mouth just to tease me," I warned, eyes shooting daggers when he let out a soft chuckle.
"I won't. When did I ever made fun of you, my Vincent?" he asked fondly, eyes disappearing from the huge smile.
