THE RUMORS had finally begun to die down.

It had taken a week of carefully constructed displays- shared lunches, casual hand-holding, and playful banter exchanged in full view of curious eyes. By now, Yeseul and Sunghoon had become the university's spectacle.

Yeseul was no longer just that girl caught in a sordid mess between two brothers. No, now she was Sunghoon's girlfriend- or so everyone believed.

The shift in perception was a small relief. For once, her name wasn't trending in anonymous forums, and the whispers in the halls had dwindled to a mere background sound. Still, it came at a cost.

Yeseul hadn't spoken to Heeseung in over a week.

Not once had she glanced in his direction- not in class, not in passing, not even by accident. She'd mastered the art of ignoring his presence entirely, keeping her head down and her focus elsewhere. It was safer this way, easier. She couldn't afford to let her resolve waver, not when she knew how much it hurt to think about him.

Sunghoon, on the other hand, had stepped into the role of her fake boyfriend with unnerving ease. He held her hand as they walked across campus, his fingers warm and steady against hers. He brought her coffee between lectures, scrawling silly doodles on the lids. He even made a point of posting pictures of her on his now- public Instagram account- photos of their little moments, of her concentrating in the library, of the cake he'd fed her in the studio.

For everyone else, they were the perfect couple. The couple of envy.

But for Sunghoon, it was more than just a facade.

He couldn't pinpoint when it started, but his feelings for Yeseul had grown stronger with each passing day. It wasn't just her quiet humor or the way she lit up when she talked about photography. It was the way she trusted him, leaned on him, even if it was only for show.

And yet, there was another feeling simmering beneath the surface, one he couldn't shake how much he tried.

For the first time, he felt like he'd won.

All his life, he'd been in Heeseung's shadow. The quieter, more reserved older brother always seemed to outshine him, whether it was in academics, sports, or even the way people gravitated toward him. But now, he had something his older brother didn't. He had Yeseul. The girl his brother gravitated towards.

Sunghoon liked her- he really did. But part of him couldn't help him but see this as a victory, a way to prove to himself that he was more than just the younger brother. And while the thought of winning against Heeseung felt good. It also left a bitter taste in his mouth.
