THE NIGHT felt heavy.

Not just in the way the air hung thick with humidity, but in the way something unseen pressed down- like a storm was brewing, but no one else could feel it.

Yeseul had just set her phone down when it buzzed again.

A single notification.

From her anonymous account.

Her breath caught in her throat.

No.

They hadn't commented in weeks.

Not since things had started unraveling- since Yeseul had stopped actively searching, trying to push it into the back of her mind.

But now-

1 New Comment.

Her hands trembled as she tapped the screen.

And there it was.

An attachment.

She clicked onto it.

And there it was.

A black-and-white photograph.

A familiar one.

The old tree- the one she had been avoiding. The one with the Y & H carving etched deep into its bark.

And beneath it, a single caption:

'Can't erase the past.'

Yeseul stared at the screen, her heartbeat a deafening pulse in her ears.

She barely noticed when Heeseung's voice called her name.

"Hey. You okay?"

She swallowed. Her voice tight.

"They left an attachment this time."

Heeseung's expression darkened instantly. "What?"

She turned the screen toward him.

His jaw tightened as he read the caption, his fingers gripping the phone.

Can't erase the past.
