AS YESEUL made her way to class, the effect that the so-called old man had warned her about might've began sooner than she had thought so.

The first was small. Her usual seat in the lecture hall was taken by someone else; if she clearly remembered, it was the girl whose heartbreak by Heeseung she had eavesdropped upon. She hesitated, confused, before sitting in a row behind.

I'm probably overthinking.

The second was harder to ignore, Sunghoon had walked into class, his gaze flickering to her for the briefest moment before walking out of the class. He didn't say anything, his usual smile which he would usually flash at her wasn't even there, as if they didn't just spend hours together on a 'fake' date yesterday.

And then there was Heeseung.

He wasn't in class. When she approached a classmate about it, they shrugged and said, ''Heeseung? He hasn't been around much lately. I guess it's been a week or so?"

Her stomach churned. Something was wrong.

No, she had seen him just yesterday....

Later that evening, Yeseul sat in her room, the camera placed carefully on her desk. It had been all she could think about. Where was Heeseung?

She couldn't inquire about his brother about it when it seemed like he wanted to do nothing with her.

It had affected their so-called 'relationship' too. Their instagram were the perfect pages to let out all their speculation about what might be a foreshadowing of their....break-up?

She sighed, holding up the camera as she snapped a picture of her reflection in the mirror. The photograph slid out almost instantly, but when she looked at it, her breath caught.

It wasn't just her in the picture. Behind her, faint and shadowy, stood the gnarled tree from the courtyard. It's carvings glowed faintly, pulsing like veins under the skin.

"What is this?" she whispered, her fingers tracing its edge.

This tree....the account...

Within a split second, her hands headed for her phone as she quickly slid onto her anonymous instagram.
