A smooth voice is what brings me out of my unconscious state. I was already beginning to get a peek at bright light, however hearing this voice was a bit of a push.
"Britney? Hi, I'm Sergeant Benson, head of Manhattan's SVU detectives. You can call me Olivia if you'd like. I want you to know that you are in Mercy hospital. In case you were wondering, you were found and retrieved in the State of New York. And although you're quite safe as of now, you're being sedated and under medication because you lost a lot of blood." Her soft tone does nothing but tire me. "I also want you to know, that your baby is fine." The final sentence she spoke woke me up completely. I get a good look at the woman speaking and I see that she was dressed in a long black trench coat with black trousers and a white shirt. I could make out a casual black top under the white dress shirt, I also saw her badge hanging on the belt around her hips. Her hair was long and brown, her eyes were soft and she seemed to be in her late thirties.
"Now the good news is that you had successful emergency abdominal and intestine repair surgery." I have no words I wish to say. "The bad news is that you lost over 40 precent of the blood in your body. You have just over two and a half litres left, and you're currently being given blood." Moments of silence pass and I keep it that way. I'd rather stay quiet for the rest of my life. "Do you have anything you wish to say?" She asks gently.
"I don't know why you're here. I'm no victim, let alone a 'special' one." My words catch her off guard. "I would much rather die than still be alive. I already know now that I don't deserve to live anymore." An awkward atmosphere is created, due to my sense of pity I take the liberty to ask what has been on my mind since the moment I woke up. "Are the others okay?" "Mr. Cosmos and Ms. Huang have also undergone surgery for their injuries, I apologise but I don't know their current condition, you would have to ask a doctor for that information." I bring my bandaged hand to my face reluctantly to feel gauzes covering either side of my face. I cringe remembering the painful feeling of acid eating my flesh. "What about Michael?" "Mr. Delgado had undergone a minor surgery, now, again, I apologise but I haven't been informed that information so I can't provide you with any specific details." "And the boy?" "We gave him a bandage for the cut on his face after cleaning the area. Don't worry, I assure you that he is in safe hands. My team and I will look after him very carefully until we figure out exactly where he belongs. You're all safe, now, Ms. Patterson, please believe that I will do everything in my nature to keep things that way."

When the detective leaves the room, I am left alone in piece. I try not to be aware that she will visit and bother me again in the near future. I am a reasonable person, and I understand that she is doing her job, nonetheless I have rights as an individual that she must comply to if she wants me to be 'comfortable', or so she claimed. My thoughts urge me to scratch at my arm until I draw blood. But I'm interrupted when another woman walks in. She wore a dark blue shirt and a pair of dark blue jeans with a white coat. She had long, black silky hair and a pair of grey glasses. When she's close enough I'm able to read the brand. Gucci. Of course. Why expect anything less of a person who obviously has a high salary? "I understand that you've woken up maybe half an hour ago. I hope I don't overwhelm you. My name is Dr. Tran, I was who performed emergency surgery on you. I understand that Sergeant Benson has informed you details but I can deliver the specifics if you'd like?" I nod lightly and bring my arm under the thin hospital cover. "What's very miraculous is that when you were attacked the object missed your baby completely. Had you been wounded two inches lower you would have lost your baby, as well as the proper functioning of your uterus, fallopian tubes and whatnot. Although your baby was not harmed by the wound, it was harmed by the wound's effects to your body, if that makes any sense."
