68 ➤ The beginning

After half an hour, I come to my senses and leave Coco's body on my bed before having it removed. I have my entire bed along with my sheets and covers thrown away as well. The vet I had check on her before her body was removed had informed me that the cause of her death was a broken neck. It's truly astonishing but I refuse to allow myself to become fazed. I cannot allow him any form of satisfaction. I cannot let him believe that I find this serious. Lord would know what that could lead to.

Emma keeps asking me if I'm fine, which, for whatever reason, I don't understand why.

My mind is blank and I simply wish to not be upset over a mere pet. After the day passes, I regain myself and continue with the process of consistent working and regular termination. My workers have been tardy and inexcusably preposterous. I never settle for anything that is below my expectations and my standards. One may see my practices as unethical but I for one want what is best for my business. Anyone else's opinion or input is irrelevant to me. I just need to keep my business and my name alive.

"She looks so gorgeous it's insane." I whine to Rachel. She looks over to my phone and scoffs. "Are you stalking her now?" I laugh. "Hm...maybe." "Thought you weren't gay." Her words cause me to sigh. She's right. "I'm not." "But-" "-She was just on my feed, okay? Come on you have to admit she looks freaking flawless." "I guess." "So did you tell Michael about everything?" She puts down her phone and smiles. "He's agreeing with me now. Says he thinks I'm thoughtful and considerate." I pout and laugh. "I told you everything would be fine. You stress over nothing sometimes, I swear." "Oh shut up miss 'Mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell'." I throw a pillow to her and she giggles. "Hey don't laugh you know it is!" "No throwing things at pregnant people." She throws it back to me. "Alright, best you leave now." I joke. "Whatever, I have a meeting to attend anyway. I'll see you tomorrow babe." She kisses my cheek and leaves my apartment. When I hear the door shut I reopen the Instagram app on my phone and go onto her profile. Chanel had just posted photos from another photo shoot she finished yesterday. I will admit I feel a bit obsessive but in my defence the photos are flawless. She looks absolutely beautiful.

After ordering a new stock shipment for work-Alex put the responsibility on me for some strange reason-I leave my laptop open on my bed and walk into the kitchen. I pour myself a dosage of methadone, and as I do so I receive a call. I look at the screen and see a private number but I pick up. "Hello?" "Hey Britney." I frown when I hear the familiar voice. "Joshua? Why are you calling?" "Funny thing happened and um...Chanel and I had a fight and instead of catching a flight to the U.K I caught one back to New York." "What? Are you crazy? Why would you do that?" I ask. "I don't know. I just feel like seeing you again would bring my mood up." "Bring your mood- Joshua, are you alone?" I become frustrated. "Yeah, why?" "Where are you? I'll come and get you." I tell him. "I'm in front of your apartment building." "Okay I'll come down." I open my door and close it before realising an important factor. "How did you know where I live?" "Chanel." Is all he says. I shake my head at his vague answer and walk down to hallway. Taking the elevator down, I exit the lobby and step out to the front of the building. "Joshua!" I call for him when I can't see him anywhere. I look down to my phone and bring it back to my ear. "Hello? Joshua? I can't see you are you sure you're here?" When the phone call ends I feel myself frown in discomfort. It's too cold for my liking so I walk back inside of the building and take the elevator back up to my apartment. I make sure to message Chanel on Viber, considering she was out of the country.
