KABANATA CI
Third Person's POV
The room was cloaked in stillness, the air heavy with an unspoken sorrow.
The forest stretched endlessly before her, vibrant with life, but to her, it seemed like a world she no longer belonged to. Her silver hair, dulled with days of isolation, framed her pale face, and her eyes, once burning with determination, were now clouded with sadness.
Morning light filtered through the curtains, painting the wooden floor with golden streaks, and by evening, the amber hues gave way to the soft glow of moonlight.
And yet, Everly barely moved from her spot, her fingers absently tracing patterns on the windowsill as she wrestled with the memories that danced just out of reach in her mind.
Some even attempted to leave small tokens—flowers, trinkets, or handwritten notes of encouragement—but they always remained untouched.
Sometimes, when the walls of her room grew too suffocating, Everly would step out onto the terrace. The cool breeze would kiss her skin, carrying with it the earthy scent of the forest and the faint hum of life beyond her self-imposed prison. She would close her eyes and take deep breaths, but the heaviness in her chest never lifted.
She always felt his presence. Greyson. He thought he was subtle, but she knew he was watching, always at a respectful distance. Whether from the shadows of the trees or the edge of the courtyard, his piercing gaze followed her every move.
His protectiveness was suffocating, yet oddly grounding. She despised it and craved it all at once.
"Killing yourself won't solve this. Lady Weresfia's soul won't awaken unless your memories are complete. The pain is part of the process, Everly. It's the key."
The thought consumed her, a dark cloud looming over her already fragile heart.
She had endured so much—betrayal, loss, the weight of a war that should have broken her, yet here she stood. If the pain she had already suffered wasn't enough, what more was required? What other torment could she possibly endure?
