KABANATA VII
Third Person's POV
A soft breeze drifted through the open window of her room, carrying the scent of fresh grass and blooming flowers from the garden below and into the room.
The late afternoon sun painted golden streaks across the cream colored walls, casting a warm glow over Everly's resting body.
Slowly, her eyes fluttered open. She blinked, her head disoriented for a moment.
Her gaze landed on Jake, his back turned to her as he leaned against the open window. His silhouette was outlined against the fading daylight, his arms resting casually on the windowsill as he watched the outside world.
Jake turned instantly at the sound of her weak voice, his sharp gaze softening as he strode toward her and sat beside her.
"How are you feeling?" he asked, his voice calm yet laced with concern.
"I—I'm fine," Everly answered, though uncertainty lingered in her tone.
Jake's lips twitched into a small, relieved smile, "glad to hear that," he muttered and before she could ask he already provided her answers.
"Manang Linda just went to the kitchen to prepare dinner," he answered.
She felt kind of relieved that he didn't ask further questions about what happened to her a while ago because she doesn't know how she'll be able to give him answers.
A flicker of wonder crossed his expression. "Magic is truly fascinating," he murmured, almost to himself.
Everly's heartbeat stuttered at his words. "What do you mean?" she asked, tilting her head slightly.
Jake met her gaze and turned her hands over, showing them to her. "Greyson used his magic to heal you. See? Not a single scar was left," he explained, his voice carrying both pride and relief.
Greyson had healed her. Again. He was the reason why she's still alive up to this moment.
She wasn't sure why the thought sent her heart into a frantic rhythm. But she knew that his touch, his magic, had been the one to mend her wounds, and somehow, that realization made her breath hitch.
