The people of Alexandria have been walking for hours. The sun had now risen and people were exhausted with everything that had happened.
They had to come to a stop under a bridge, Dwight said it was one of their patrol spots. As they were about to move out, a walkie talkie from above sounded out. "Patrols, we got an orange situation.
Doctor Carson and the priest. Might've escaped overnight, maybe this morning." A man spoke over the device. "Go from standard search and cover on our perimeter around hilltop. Eyeballs open." The sound of cars doors closing and the vehicle driving off let them know they were safe.
Daryl creeped out of the bush slowly with Adrianna behind him. "Let's go." He whispered. Adrianna turned back and waved at the group to come out. They slowly walked out and Daryl motioned them to the woods. "Best to stay off the roads. Head into the woods right there." The couple ushered them into the woods and followed behind.
A walker stumbled out and made its way to the group. "I got it." Tara called out. She walked over to the walker and raised her knife up. "I'll cover you." Dwight walked over to help. Before Tara could plunge the knife into the walkers skull, she threw it at the man.
"Tara." Adrianna scolded.
"What? It got away." She shrugged and looked at Dwight as he struggled. "He can handle it." Dwight pushed it back and pulled his knife, plunging it down quickly, it went limp. "See?" Tara sarcastically asked.
"Just keep em moving." Daryl scowled.
The group began walking again, Adrianna and Daryl lingered in the back. "Did you hear them on the walkie talking about Carson and Gabriel?" She asked. He nodded as his eyes scanned the trees dor any danger. "Yeah. They're probably heading to the hilltop, same as us."
"Hopefully better than us." She muttered
————————
"Adrianna." She turned back and looked to the group on the ground. "They need a break." Rosita urged.
Adrianna nodded and walked over to get Daryl. She jogged slightly to catch up to the man. "Daryl." Her voice was soft as she called out.
He turned back and a scowl took over his face when he didn't see the group. "Where are they" He asked.
"They needed rest." She waved back to the group. Everyone had eye bags and you could see the hurt in their eyes. "They're exhausted, nobody's slept."
He took in the groups disheveled look and agreed.
"Alright ten minute. Then we keep going." He nodded to the way they came. "I'm gonna go back, cover our tracks."
"I'll go with you."
They walked back the way they came but stopped when Tara walked over. "I have a question." She pointed to Dwight who was leaned up on a tree.
"Is there a reason he's still breathing?" Tara asked.
"Fight ain't over." Daryl answered.
"It is for him. I'm done waiting." She snapped.
"Not now. Not yet." He said before walking off.
"He's right." Tara's eyes went back to her. "Dwight could have an angle we don't know about. He could help. He wants to." Adrianna explains. "Can't give that up yet." Tara was about to argue but Adrianna raised her hand and she stopped. "We just lost Carl. Let's just stop, at least until we get to the hilltop." She urged. They had lost enough for the last day, they didn't need to lose that last person who could get real intel on the saviors.
————————
"If they're smart then they'll cover all the passes between here and the hilltop." Daryl said pointing at the map. Adrianna sighed and she knew they were stuck, if the saviors were there, then there was no clear way. "We have to keep moving. We'll just have to risk it." She insisted. The group watched from afar as they sat on the ground, enjoying the last minutes of their break.
