"Henry, I need you to calm down. We're trying to help." Hershel pleaded with the wheezing boy. He couldn't breathe so an intubation tube was needed.
Sasha, Adrianna, and Glenn took hold of his arms and legs and held him down. When the tube got settled her relaxed. The three of them broke into a cough from the strain. "Drink some of that. All of you." Hershel pointed to the tea.Adrianna grabbed the cup and took a small sip before passing it to Sasha. "Some council meeting, huh?" Adrianna joked.
"We're two members short." Sasha adds while
passing the cup to Glenn."I think we should make some new rules before they get back." Hershel joked. "I hearby declare we have spaghetti Tuesdays, every Wednesday." He looked to the sick faces surrounding him. "First we have to find some spaghetti." A soft smile fell over everyone's lips.
Hershel passes Sasha the bag. "You okay to take over?" He asked and she nods. "Every five to six seconds, squeeze. You start feeling lightheaded, grab somebody else to take over." He looked to the small group. "We'll take it in shifts."
They nodded in agreement. Hershel looked Adrianna as she stood up slowly. "You want to help me go on my rounds?"
"Sure." She took a strip out of the cell and looked back. "How long will that keep him alive?"
Sasha and Glenn turned to him, curious for the answer too.
"Just as long as we're willing to do it. As long as it takes." He explains.
Hershel and Adrianna walk down the stairs and begin to check on the sick people around. Adrianna walked past a cell and noticed no movement. With a quick wave of her arm she motioned Hershel over.
He walked in and they confirmed he had passed.
Adrianna grabbed her knife out. "No." Hershel grabbed his wrist. "Not here."He exited the cell for a moment and brought a gurney in. "Help me get him on this."
"Okay, but in a couple of hours when Henry's dead-"
"Adrianna."
She continued her conversation anyway. "How are we gonna get his body down the stairs, across the cell block and through those doors without anyone noticing?"
Hershel thinks for a moment. "If that happens- if- then you're gonna help me."
"And what if I'm gone?"
"Shut up and help me get him on this."
They grabbed the man's body and transferred him onto the gurney. They rolled him in front of the set of doors that led to the exit.
"What are you doing?" A small voice made Adrianna halt in her actions.
They turned around to see a worried Lizzie.
"We're taking Mr. Jacob's into a quieter place." Adrianna explained with a cough.
"Go get my copy of "Tom Sawyer" from my room. I want you to read it by tonight. We all got jobs to do.
That's ones yours." Hershel told the young girl."I won't finish it." She said.
"Why?"
"It's gonna get too dark."
"Give it your best try." Adrianna let out another cough. "And drink some tea." She urged with a small smile.
Lizzie nodded and walked away from them. They continued on their way and brought his body to the viewing room.
"You haven't had to this yet, have you?" Adrianna asked as they locked the rolling wheels.
"There was one late last night. Sasha did it. People don't need to see it, I don't want them too."
