Subaru Kagami

He knows that he doesn't make too much of an appearance as the Captain of Hotarubi, so he understood some people will definitely have something to say about that. That dreadful feeling of being the topic people gossip about he knows all too well, and is precisely why he'd much rather stay in the comfort of his dorm.

On top of that, he used to house Lyca and once that news got out, everyone exploded with theories.

"Was he the spy? Why would he keep a damn werewolf hidden like that?"

"Hotarubi students are all so quiet and creepy as fuck, you never know, they might be messing with spirits, planning something to overtake the school."

You sat across their table with Subaru in the library, hearing bits and pieces of gossip, but these two lines from Vagastrom students stuck out to you.

It was already rare enough for Subaru to come out of his comfort zone, and these guys weren't making it better.

You sighed loud enough to make the two hooligans turn to look at you,
"It's always the people with too much time and little knowledge that talks about all this,"

They shifted around uncomfortably, and you continued,
"Also it a trend to just do anything but study in the library now? Let's get out of here, Subaru."
You side-eyed them before turning your heel, and taking Subaru's hand to lead him out.

- Subaru will look at you all surprised and blushing. You didn't have to do that, he hated confrontation. But at that moment you seemed so brave to him, he could only stare in awe.

- He feels indebted and apologises for ruining your studying session because of rumours about him. You need to tell him it isn't even his fault that people are running their mouths.

- Next time, he thought, he will stand up for himself. He didn't want to trouble you although he is grateful to have had you done that.

- Definitely hangs out around you more often now, and especially when he needs to step out of Hotarubi. Other than Haku, you became his comfort zone outside of dorm.

Haku Kusanagi

Only good things spreaded around about the Vice-captain of Hotarubi. He was kind, considerate and responsible, not to mention the charisma he had, so it was not common to hear anything bad about him. At least in Hotarubi itself.

Outside of the peaceful house, there were speculations about his background and how he seems a little off when people want to talk to him.
Also, what is up with that eerie floating flute?

He couldn't be bothered enough to stop them though and if they don't come to him straight up and say it to his face, why should he have to go to them?

However, it seemed you thought otherwise, clearing your throat as you went up to them,
"It seems the group of you have a lot to say about Haku, why don't you say it to him directly?"

You glared daggers at them as Zenji flew around behind you, making the flute seemed like it was an entity on its own.

The group of students turned pale, scurrying off before you could say anything else.

- Haku chuckled at you and Zenji's antics. With Zenji being a spirit, his life was never boring. But with your arrival, the chaos was elevated, in the best way possible.

- "Wow, i didn't know you had that in you, MC." You always appeared so docile and harmless but Haku enjoyed this new side of yours he had just discovered.

- "Accidentally" bumps into you around campus more often to have lunch with you.

- You can call him anytime you have problems, be it school work or missions, emotional or physical. He will be there to listen, no matter how busy he may be.

Zenji Kotodama

Okay, like leave him alone people, he has already gone to the other side why are people still badmouthing my poor guy. Rude af.

"You disrespectful lot of meat clumps. How DARE you speak rudely about the dead. Do you even know anything about him?"
You slammed your hand on the table of students who had been speaking badly about Zenji, making everyone turn their heads at the cafeteria.

"How would you like to be disrespected after your death? People these days, i swear, are getting more and more brazen..."
You scoffed before storming off.

- What an honour it is to have a friend like you, MC. Zenji didn't mind rumours about him because he was chill like that, but seeing you stand up for him moved him and his poetic heart.

- He immediately followed you out of the cafeteria to see you cooling off. "You were incredible back there, my wonderful friend!"

- Your strong values and respect made him compose a song in his head immediately. Allow him to play it for you with his biwa.

- With someone like you around, he never felt like he was a spirit. Let him protect you in anyway he can like a gaurdian angel.
