18 MONTHS LATER
Their luck eventually turned.
Kie found out that an article was written about them. Archeologists excavated the cave John B, his father and Sarah blew up and, suddenly, the group became heroes. Weeks later, a whole damn ceremony was announced for them.
Avery walked back into the room where she'd previously left JJ, clipping her earring in. Her small heels clicked against the wood floor, the sound not even being enough to drag JJ out of his daydream.
He stood in front of the mirror, a white dress shirt on with a tie resting over his shoulders. He'd made no effort to even try to tie it around his neck, for two reasons. One, he didn't know how to. Two, he didn't want to.
Avery slowly walked up to him, standing behind. She wrapped one hand around his waist while the other rubbed soothing circles against his back, lulling him as her chest pressed against the other side of his back. Avery glanced at him through the mirror, the boy's dreamy blue eyes finally meeting hers.
"I don't want to go." He admitted softly, his voice barely above a whisper.
He, of course, had taken a quick glance at her before speaking. She looked absolutely breathtaking. Avery was wearing simple knee-length navy dress paired with her sandals that fit her flawlessly. Her usual gold necklaces were wrapped around her neck, falling perfectly against the soft skin of her chest. JJ admired the rings on her fingers as she held him closely, his eyes softening from the gentle look she gave him.
"I know, J." She practically whispered, moving so she could stand in front of him. He immediately wrapped his arms around her waist, his hands resting against her back.
"Big John wouldn't have even wanted the recognition." JJ stated, sighing softly - his eyes trailed on her necklaces. His eyes fluttered close as one of her hands gently began tracing the curve of his jaw, JJ's gaze flickering to her lips the second they opened again.
"I'm sure he wouldn't have." She sent him a tight lipped smile, "But maybe that's what we all need to move on from this."
He inhaled deeply, a smirk flashing across his lips causing Avery to brace herself for the mischief that was about to slip. "It's what we need to get our money, too, that much I know."
Avery rolled her eyes, her hands drawing along his chest placing themselves over his collarbones as his head dipped lower, bringing their lips together. They kissed for a few seconds, making no effort to pull away whatsoever. They needed this, it was like their motivation for what was to come.
JJ pulled away as he felt her fumbling with his tie, eyebrows furrowed as he wondered what she was up to. "Are you?..."
"Yep," She confidently replied, indeed tying the black tie for him, "If I don't do it now, then I might start unbuttoning your shirt and we do not have time." Avery teased, sending him a wink as she straightened the knot around his neck.
