Todoroki POV:
As if I had been waiting for that moment to come I sprinted over to Izu and helped him off the floor before rushing into to nearest place to hide. All three of us held our breathes. It was weirdly quiet on the square. Had it been much quieter than expected after all? I took a peek. Nothing there. "Should we risk it?" I asked Kats. He looked over to Izu. He was still catching his breath. His left under arm was covered in blood. Katz kneeled down next to him. "Are you alright, Nerd? ... Here, let me see your arm." Kats pulled out a piece of fabric out of his pocket and carefully wrapped it around the wound. "We'll make sure to properly clean it later, don't worry. Do you think you could get up?" Izuku nodded. "Alright, how about you keep watch for now and Shoto continues for you. You can switch back in later. But only as long as your arm doesn't hurt too much. You hear me?" He didn't say a single word. He just nodded again. Kats closed his eyes for a moment and took a deep breath. "Is it still clear?" He asked a few seconds later. I took another look just to be sure. "It is." "Alright let's go then."
We were being a lot more careful from then on. Every time we heard even just the slightest bit of noise we would immediately go into hiding. A few times we even got visited by those creatures. By then we had already gotten good at hiding and none of them could ever spot us, though. By the time the sun had started to set the statue already looked as good as new again. With a little help of climbing skills and lifting each other up we had even managed to reach up to her head. Now all that was left was some stubborn dirt left on the fine details and the plague with the text on it. We just hoped the podium wouldn't count as part of the statue. Otherwise we would have to still clean that too. Shouldn't take too long though. For now we just returned to the bathtub to change our dirty water and clean the supplies.
"Should we start heading back soon? It's slowly getting dark out." Izu suggested. "I was hoping we would be able to finish it today." Kats answered. "We won't be able to see the dirt in the dark anyways." I responded. "I guess..." He sighed. "Tomorrow we'll all head home. I promise. So don't worry. Ok, Kacchan?" Izu gave us a warm smile. Kats halted "Maybe you're right. It won't hurt spending a bit more time with you guys here." he responded. A lump formed inside my throat. The truth was unbearable. After preparing the rest of our stuff for tomorrow we decided to head back to the boat while we could still see where we were stepping. It was much crepier on this island now that it had started to get dark. The whole way we held hands.
Back on the boat we cleaned up a bit and got comfortable on the floor again. It wasn't the most resting sleep but the most comfortable considering we were able to lay in each other's arms. I held both of them tightly to my chest. That nigh another storm flew over the land. I wasn't able to close a single eye. Lightning crashed down from the sky. Kats had laid down on my right shoulder and was sleeping like a baby. Izu was cuddled up on my chest sometimes flinching because of the thunder but otherwise also fast asleep. Once the sun had started to rise the only thing left was the pouring rain. I finally managed to doze off before falling into a deep slumber.
The sun stood high. All three of us stood there shocked at what was in front of us. A lightning had struck the heroes statue. The top half was covered in black ashes. Thank god none of the pieces had broken off. But they might still do if we touched it too much. I could feel Katsuki fidget next to me. He must've been furious. And to a certain extent I was too. "What should we do?" Izu asked. "Maybe we can just wash it off? As long as nothing is broken..." I answered. As I looked over to Katsuki I could see how much he was containing himself. In that moment I was kind of proud of how well he handled his frustrations. I took another look around. I hadn't seen a single shadow giant so far. It was making me feel uneasy. Had the storm been so bad that even monsters like that would go into hidings? "Let's just keep going for now. We should use our time wisely. Especially because those shadow things seem to still be asleep." I suggested.
With old toothbrushes I had found earlier I firstly concentrated on cleaning the details at the bottom of the statue. But as we continued going up we made a shocking discovery. After he had poured a bucked of water over the statues head he suddenly called us "You two...". Based on Izu's tone we already knew he had no good news. There was a giant crack going from the top of her head till down to her belly button. My strength hit a limit. The burn marks had come off easily but we faced a whole new problem now. None of us said a single word. We all just starred at the damage. "Maybe it won't make a difference?" Izu tried talking it good. "Let's just keep going for now." Kats said after a few more minutes had passed. He was right. There was nothing we could do about it now. All we could do was continue to clean and in case it wasn't enough come up with a solution later. We continued working on Waka with those tiny toothbrushes compared to that giant statue. After a few more hours some of the shadow giants had build up enough courage again to leave their hideouts. But luckily by then we had already gotten pretty far. The morning came to an end. The only thing left now was the plaque. Would this work? I prayed for it.
