While Daisuke invites his teammates to join us for mochi, I walk out with Kyotani, desperately trying to convince him to come with us. I fail miserably.

He walks away, leaving me outside by myself. My only consolation is that he lifts a hand to wave at me just before he turns the corner. Which is honestly a huge victory.

Daisuke is still inside, so I check my phone and see a new message from Aya. We've been texting each other occasionally since the training camp, and it's actually been a lot of fun. It makes me happy to know that I'm friends with another girl in Japan.

Hey, Lillian-chan! How are you doing? Your team has their tournament soon, right? Tell me how it's going!

I smile. I've told Aya she can call me Lily, but she said she likes using my full name. I don't have a problem with it. It's more important to me that she feels comfortable with the way she addresses me. I push my bag up onto my shoulder so I can type a quick message in response.

Aya-chan! I'm doing great! Well, actually I'm pretty tired. It takes a lot of work to get ready for a tournament! We recruited a new player recently, and he's been causing some trouble with the team. Lately I've been trying my best to become friends with him, and it's working slowly. Do you have any advice?

I hear the sound of the door opening and turn to see Daisuke exiting alone. I slip my phone back into my bag. "None of the other guys wanted to come?"

"Nope. They think my tradition of celebratory mochi is silly," the tall setter lays a hand on his chest to act as if he's deeply hurt.

"What? Are you serious?" I gasp. "I can't believe that. Such sad lives."

"Right?" he says, pouting. "They haven't come with me in a long time."

"That doesn't even make sense to me. I would do anything for mochi."

"Yeah?" Daisuke raises an eyebrow at me. "You'd even hang out with a bore like me for longer than you have to?"

I give him a gentle shove. "Oh please. You are not a bore. I've never seen such a sneaky setter."

He grins. "I do like dumping the ball."

"I can tell," I laugh. "I didn't know it was possible to dump the ball so many times in one match. Every time I thought I couldn't be more surprised, you shattered that thought."

"Keeping people on their toes happens to be my specialty," he bumps my shoulder with his, then puts his hand on my back to guide me across the street. "The mochi shop is over here."

To my surprise, I recognize the building.

"Oh, I've been here before."

"Really?" Daisuke holds the door open for me.

"Yep. I lost a bet with our captain and vice-captain and had to bring the whole team here for ice cream."

He laughs. "That must have been pricey."

"Yeah. It was not a happy day for my wallet," I grimace at the memory. "Not to mention my pride."

"What was the bet?"

"It was a competition of accuracy. They hit targets with volleyballs, and I hit targets with my tennis equipment. They completely demolished me." I grab a bag and fill it with a couple green tea mochi and one milk bread flavor. I've been curious about it ever since Oikawa got it last time.

"Hmmm, I don't know that I believe you," Daisuke leads me to a table after we make our purchases. "I can't imagine you losing badly, if at all."

I shrug. "Well, it happened."
