My eyes flutter and I can feel myself slowly waking up. My hand is touching something really soft, so I fiddle my fingers, enjoying the last few moments of half-consciousness before blinking several times to clear my vision and shifting uncomfortably. My legs feel like they're overheating.
I look down and blush. Maybe because there's a person on them. I hurriedly untangle my fingers from Oikawa's hair and poke his shoulder. "Hey. Get up. I think you're cutting off my circulation."
Oikawa groans and turns over to look at me through half-closed eyes. "You know, most girls would gladly sacrifice their blood flow to have me fall asleep in their lap."
I answer with a shove, sending him sprawling to the floor. "Yeah, well I'd rather eat a doughnut." I stand up and walk to the kitchen. Only to shiver and walk back to grab my blanket.
"Ouch," Oikawa rubs the back of his head. "Lil-chan, was that really necessary?"
I stick my tongue out at him, but hold out my hand and pull him to his feet. As soon as he's up, I take a moment to wrap my blanket more tightly around me, tucking the ends in between my knees to stop my shivering. It works, but there's one problem.
"Why are you walking funny, Lil-chan?"
I continue my side-to-side waddle into the kitchen. "So my blanket doesn't unwrap. What time is it?" I reach for my phone, but it's not in my pocket. I look back and groan when I see it on the couch. Taking several tiny steps to turn around, I waddle back into the living room.
There's a brief space of silence before Oikawa breaks into whooping laughter. It's the most genuine laugh I've ever heard from him.
At my expense.
I whip around to tell him to shut up, but my knee hits the blanket wall surrounding my legs and I nearly go down. After a few staggering hops, I regain my balance and glare at the volleyball captain. It just makes him laugh all the harder. I roll my eyes, grab my phone, and start to make my way back to the kitchen, but he stops me.
"Wait wait," he wheezes, hands on his knees. He pulls out his phone while trying to catch his breath.
My heart flips at how disheveled he looks. Oikawa always looks good. But now, with his hair rumpled from napping, a blanket around his shoulders, and gasping laughs working their way out of him as he tries to hold still to point his phone camera at me...
It would be the end of me if I was anything but 100% determined to ignore anything I might be feeling for him. My hands twitch toward him, as if testing that determination, but luckily they're occupied with holding my blanket around me.
"Okay okay, come come," he says breathlessly and waves me toward him.
I try to glare at him again, but his mirth is infectious and I laugh instead, making my waddle in his direction even more exaggerated. It only lasts a few seconds before we both collapse into laughter. I recover before he does and continue my path to the kitchen, intent on getting my doughnut, but Oikawa stops me again.
"Wait wait," he repeats, then wraps his blanket around himself the same way I did, tucking all the extra fabric between his knees. He looks at me and his eyes take on a mischievous gleam.
"Whoa wait, what are you doing?" I ask suspiciously.
He doesn't answer, just stares at me. Then he roars and launches himself forward, waddling at me full speed.
I give an involuntary yelp at his sudden charge and barely manage to stagger out of his way.
Oikawa pivots way more neatly than anyone in a blanket burrito should be able, and waddle-runs at me again.
