"Wow."
My eyes are glued to the match playing out below me and they've only played two points so far.
"Karasuno's libero is so fast," I admire. He didn't get the ball up to the setter, but I could tell it was a tough ball to dig in the first place. It's amazing he got it up at all. "You guys haven't seen him play before, right?"
The players around me shake their heads.
"His name sounds familiar though," Mattsun mentions. "I think he was really good in middle school too."
"That spike had some power on it," Iwaizumi comments after Karasuno's left side finishes the point.
I nod in agreement. It seems like that bulky, man-bun guy is living up to his looks. We'll have to watch out for both him and the libero.
Oikawa yawns loudly behind us.
I roll my eyes. He's so pretentious.
Then I catch myself. Or maybe he's just tired. I shouldn't jump straight to thinking the worst of Oikawa. That's probably why I have such a hard time getting along with him. That's probably exactly why the third-years felt it was necessary to approach me and ask me to try harder to be friendly to their captain.
I turn my head to face Oikawa. "Are you tired, Oikawa-san?"
"Yeah," Oikawa shuffles to sink further into his chair. "Tired of watching such boring volleyball."
I narrow my eyes at him. "Right." Never mind. I don't know why I thought his yawn would be anything other than pretentious.
Returning my attention to the court, my eyes track the path of the serve.
Karasuno's libero picks it up.
Then their number 10 is running forward and jumping.
"What the... what is he doing—"
My question is cut off as the ball slams into Tokonami's side of the court.
Karasuno's number 10 lands.
I blink.
A sound of excitement startles me and I turn to see Oikawa beside me gazing down at the court with a grin.
Huh? When did he come up here to watch?
Actually, what just happened? How did that point just end? There's no way...
"Wait..." I point hesitantly down at the court. "That was... don't tell me... THAT was the freakish quick attack??"
Iwaizumi nods. "Pretty scary, right?"
"Yeah..."
Not that Iwaizumi looks scared. He looks normal. Kindaichi looks livid. And Oikawa... looks downright giddy. What's with him?
But if I'm being honest, that quick attack is scary. I'm a seasoned athlete, and I couldn't even catch what happened. I can't imagine being the team receiving that spike. Now that I know how fast it happens, I'll have to be especially alert. I'm not going to let myself miss what happens again.
I focus my attention on Karasuno, marking their number 10 in my peripheral vision.
Karasuno's blockers shut down Tokonami's next spike.
On the next point, one of Karasuno's wing spikers digs the ball, then the setter sends the ball to the left side and Man-bun scores another point.
