"Watacchi, this looks like it could be very effective," Oikawa has his hand on his chin, looking over the play Watari drew out on a piece of paper.
"I agree. Nice job, Watari-kun." I slap his back. I may not understand a lot about volleyball, but I understand plays, and this one looks amazing, if a bit advanced. It's the perfect play to come back from a tight spot and score when the opponent thinks they've cornered us. I'm impressed that Watari thought this up just from that one point against Shiratorizawa.
"Thank you," the libero smiles. "I know I've done it before, but I'd like to practice more so that we can make it an official play. So, if it's alright with you, Oikawa-san, I'll start practicing this with Lily at her next clinic."
Oikawa gives the affirmative, then tells the rest of the team to start cleaning up.
Watari and I high-five.
"Alright, Lil-chan," Oikawa locks the gym door before turning to walk beside me. "You're looking for advice?"
"I sure am." I look up at the sky. The words I need to say aren't coming easily. "It starts with an apology. I realize that all the stuff you said to me when we were... um, talking, I guess, with the Johzenji kid, about being a good teammate..." I feel awkward, and I'm stumbling over these sentences, but gratefully, he's not teasing me. Just listening. "Well, you were right, and I'm sorry for being a jerk. Then, and all the other times too. So, I'm taking what you said to heart and I'm asking for advice on how to be a better teammate and manager. I want to be the best there is!" I pump my fist and flash a confident smile before dropping both and looking at the ground. "Because this team deserves it."
"They definitely do," Oikawa agrees quietly.
"Exactly! So how do I do it?" I grab his arm and shake it. I'm borderline begging, but I don't care. I need him to tell me how to do better.
Oikawa traps my hand to his arm with his opposite hand and brings his head close to mine, making me freeze. "Lil-chan." His breath is a tease and his voice is a smile. "I'll tell you."
I push him away. "Okay, then tell me already."
"Though, if you don't already know what to do, I'm not sure that I should tell you."
"What?" I grab his arm again, panicked. I should have seen this coming. It's so typical of him to withhold giving me advice outright. Though I suppose that's what Coach Roku did too. The difference is that Oikawa is my age, so I can do my best to weasel it out of him without being insolent. "Oikawa Toru, you better help me out, or I will literally put you in a full-nelson right now."
He laughs. "I assume you're threatening me, but I don't know what that means."
"A full-nelson?"
His head shakes in the negative.
"Oh. Well, I guess—" I jump on his back, wrapping my legs around his waist for stability as my arms slip under his, all the way around to put my hands on the back of his head, forcing it down to lock out his shoulders. "I'll show you. This is a full-nelson. But it was more of an empty threat, because this one is much more simple—" I let go, then hook my right elbow around his throat as I talk, my right hand locking onto my left bicep and my left hand anchoring on the back of his head to force him into the hold. "—And it is a lot more conducive to my needs at the moment," I finish cheerfully.
Oikawa catches his balance from me having jumped on him. He tries to laugh, but my chokehold restricts it and he coughs instead. "Well, that was unexpected. Nicely done, Lil-chan. Now get off me."
I tighten my elbow around his neck slightly, being careful to avoid actually hurting him. "Don't compliment me. Just tell me how to be a better teammate."
