ADRIAN
My mate didn't utter a word about going a date with me, it was like she was still asleep, and I was talking to a zombie.
When I was asleep next to her, I didn't lie to her. I did have the best sleep of my life. Being that close to her, it calmed me and Rafe down completely, even making my damn Lycan snore in my head.
Rafe was the first one awake between the two of us and could sense she was staring at me and when I opened my eyes, she was. She looked like she was daydreaming.
The entire morning was about trying to navigate through what was going on between us. Her emotions were everywhere and till she mentioned the storm had cleared up. It must have stopped when we were asleep. I knew I had to mind link Alpha Maddox, since I needed to know where I had to be.
But every part of me didn't want to leave Kenna alone. That was out of the question. I have had the image of what that could be and I wasn't going to give it up now.
Asking her on a date was my way of putting it out there, but ever since I said the words Kenna hasn't even said anything.
"I think you broke her," Rafe said, coming closer again to see what was keeping her from talking.
Many times, I had to hold him back since our conversation this morning, he wanted to come out and talk to her but since she still had no clue who we were, we would have to wait.
"I hate that you get to talk to her, and I have to watch helplessly as you destroy what we could have with her," he said, sounding dramatic.
"Hey, what the hell! I haven't destroyed anything," I growled, looking at him but looked back to see a confused Kenna staring back at me.
"Ad, are you okay?" she asked, moving her chin from my grip. Her eyes glued to me like saucers.
"You went blank on her when you were talking to me," Rafe stated amused, which I ignored. I had to stop talking to him until she knew who we were.
Taking a moment, I smiled. "I'm okay."
Moving back till there was a good enough space between us, I placed my hand on her knee which sent tingles through me. Our bond was working which would make everything easier as time goes on.
Knowing I had to word this next part for her, without being pushy like I was earlier. "Kenna, I know a date sounds scary and we don't know each other, but you did tell me things that you have never said to anyone since you got here."
Kenna frowned. "How would you know that?"
Rolling my eyes, knowing I couldn't tell her Catrina already told me she never did. I came up with something. "It seemed like you haven't in the way you spoke about everything to me last night."
Kenna looked at me for a moment, not saying anything so I took that as to continue. "Also, I don't mind hearing what you have to get out. If you feel safe and comfortable to talk to me then I am happy to be that person you need."
That's all that took for her eyes soften. "Thank you for listening to me," she said, looking away for a moment and then sighed. "I guess I need to be braver and say yes more."
That was all I ever wanted her to say.
I grinned. "So, will you go on a date with me? We don't have to do anything fancy. Just the two of us getting to know each other, and you can ask me questions instead."
Kenna smiled. "I will hold you to that."
Oh, I believe she would.
Rafe was now happy that she agreed, even chanted what he wanted to do with her. I had to block him since he was sending images of what we should do, nothing appropriate for a first date. And as much as I want to have her nine ways to Sunday, that wouldn't be happening till she was ready.
Kenna let out a sigh and moved from where she was sitting till she was standing. She looked at me and smiled. "I'm going to have a shower and then get ready."
I nodded.
Then she left, turning on her heel to head into the bathroom. I waited till I heard the door close, and the water start before I opened a mind link to Alpha Maddox.
"Alpha, how's the town?" I asked, not too bothered whether there was a flood or not.
"Well, the town needs you. A few trees had fallen over and not to mention two houses were flooded. It is all hands-on deck with the work. Some pack members are already starting to help but we may need you to come to the town to assess what the damage is."
Not liking the sound of that, I also knew I had to ask about Kenna and what she needed to do. I asked and the man let out a chuckle. "Kenna," he said, once he had calmed down. "She can come into work and help with around the office. There are a few people who are trying to put a claim in with their insurance to help with costs and there is also some work in the office she can be doing to."
Groaning, I thought it would be a quiet day for her and me, so we could have our date sooner, but it looks like we will be waiting till later.
"Okay," I said, which only made him chuckle and asked what was wrong.
I told him everything that she had told me the night before, even about the man in question. He said nothing for a moment and then cursed. "Maybe having them come here wasn't such a good idea."
"Maybe," I said with a sigh. "How about making it another week or so? State we have damage and need to repair everything before they come. Health and safety first, you know."
"Yeah, true." Alpha Maddox said but went quiet for a moment before he sighed. "Leave the alpha and beta to me. I will tell them what you said. And as for taking your mate on a date, take her to the Italian place on the grounds. It is perfect for a first date."
As much as I didn't want his input when it came to what I should do about the date, I was more grateful for the suggestion.
Alpha Maddox and I continued talking till I heard Kenna's bathroom open. I said goodbye and waited for her to head into her room and closing the door, before I opened a mind link to Catrina.
