KENNA
Adrain was out on a call, while I was sitting waiting for him. Reading the new book that came the other day, which I promised myself I would read but never got around to since Adrian seemed to have taken up my time. Time I never minded sharing since I liked the man.
Yes, I admit he is one hot looking guy. The way he is with me and how I feel, which is weird for only knowing him for a few days. And the sparks, they flow between us and make everything between us ignite like we were meant to be. I have never felt like this about anyone.
I don't know how long I had stayed like this, the book in my lap while I look out and daydream about the man who had been rocking my world since he stepped foot into my life.
Adrian and I kept our dates going as usual, but they always ended with us being in my room, him buried deep inside me. Not to mention before his cock goes near me, his head is always between my thighs, making me beg for a release which he makes me do at least three times before he lets me have him. The man knows how to work that tongue of his, whether deep in my pussy or the dirty words that flow from his mouth, I am hooked.
Well, more like feelings have surfaced. Feelings that I never thought I would feel again for anyone again. Feelings for him that have now changed into something more and it scares the crap out of me. I have never really fell in love with anyone—until now. The man made my heartbeat faster when he was around. It was like forces were pulling us together and I was along for the ride.
Strange right.
How can one man, who just showed up out of nowhere, can make me feel things no woman should feel in a week or so of being with him? Being with him platonic was one thing, but now I wanted more. Something deeper was pulling me toward him and if I was being honest, I was liking it more than I wanted to admit.
A door slammed outside, which pulled me back from my daydream and a smile played on my lips, thinking it was Adrian, but when I move to go to the door, which I open. The smile falters a little when I see Catrina, who looks like she is fake smiling at me.
What the hell?
Why would she be like this? We were friends... right?
"Kenna," she said, a little to forced. "I'm sorry to disturb you but I was wondering if I could come in. It is very important."
I nodded, wondering what the hell this was about.
Stepping aside to let her in, which she did. I watched her walk in and head into the lounge, while I close the door. Moving further into my home and stopping behind the couch, while my eyes never left Catrina.
"So, what's up?" I asked, trying to figure out what the hell was going on.
Catrina's face went blank but then fear appeared which sent a shiver rippling down my back. Something was wrong.
"Catrina, what's going on? Is someone hurt?" My mind instantly going to Adrian.
Catrina shook her head but looked around and then back at me before she let out a sigh. "Maddox has been told yesterday that there is a pack of wolves coming closer to the grounds and are heading this way, which made him think of you since you live out this way."
My eyes widened, remembering the wolves that I heard a few times over the months I have been here.
"What about Adrian? Does he know?"
Catrina nodded, but there was clearly something she wasn't telling me.
I frowned. "You're not telling me everything. What is it?" Catrina looked at me surprised, but I frowned. "You have a tell when you not telling me everything—like the twitch at the corner of your eye. I have seen it before when you haven't told me something before and I heard it around town instead."
Her eyes widened.
The only thing she never told me was about the wolves when I got here before, I overheard one of the store clerks mention about wolves circling around the area and him telling the person they needed to be careful. But he called them something else, rogues, I believe which confused me.
Catrina stared at me before she flipped her arms up and back down again. "Fine, you got me." Her eyes locked onto mine. "We have some guests here and they know you."
What the hell?
"What do you mean guests?" I asked, with panic hitting hard. "I don't have any family. The only people I know, they wouldn't know I am here."
Catrina's eyes softened but the twitch came again. "Catrina, what's going on? Wolves here, I can already understand that since I have heard them a few times. But guests, who know me? No one would come and find me; I am a nobody."
The word nobody had her tense, looking slightly pissed like she wanted to say something, but she didn't. She stared for a moment before she sighed. "Okay. Look Maddox needed some references for you from your old job as he wanted to promote you and give you a different position within the office, but it required the reference by the law of the town."
My stomach twisted.
My old job?
Why?
Then an image of the man who used me came to mind. Fuck, please tell me he's not here.
Something in the way I looked at her must have given me away when she spoke again and said something that made me want the ground to swallow me whole. "When Maddox rang your boss James, he told him what a good person you were and how capable you were. But then he mentioned Dylan was looking for you. Something about being in a relationship and—"
"I ended it," I said, cutting her off which made her mouth snap shut. "He wasn't the person I thought he was."
There was no way I was going to tell her what he did.
Catrina's face softened. "I'm sorry Kenna, but Dylan and your old boss are here and want to talk to you. Dylan thinks you made a mistake."
I shook my head. "No, I didn't." Those three words came out flatly before I continued. "Catrina, I had my reasons. He shouldn't want anything to do with me."
Catrina's face morphed into something I didn't recognise till she sighed. "Kenna, all I know is, they are on their way here."
My stomach dropped, not wanting to believe it.
"Catrina, what am I supposed to do?" I asked, panic sweeping in.
Catrina moved toward me and placed her hands on my arms. "How about you stay with me and Lewis, especially with the wolves coming closer to the grounds. We can all be together. And as far as your boss and ex, we can deal with them together. Maybe even explain to Maddox what really happened."
The mere thought of what happened made my stomach twist into knots, but what else was I to do.
Then a thought came to mind.
"Where's Adrian?" I asked.
Catrina smiled. "He's still at work but he was the one who asked me to ask you to stay with Lewis and me."
That seemed like something he would do, right?
Nodding, I looked at her. "I need to pack some things."
Catrina smiled. "I'll help."
Everything in me had me on edge, and the wolves wasn't even the problem. If my ex was here, then that would mean he wanted something and I knew exactly what he wanted, but like hell was I complying to his demand.
