KENNA
While I got showered and ready, Catrina was in my kitchen cooking a meal for Adrian and me to have. I felt weird about this, but it also felt right. I don't know if it was because we spent at the least two nights and days together, but I feel safe with him.
Stepping out of the shower, I quickly dried my hair and then curled it. I knew what I wasn't bothering with makeup since we were in the house and in all honesty, Adrian has seen me in the morning all ready.
The towel was still wrapped around me, but I had no idea what I should wear on this date. We were in the house and all I wanted to do was wear comfy clothes. Walking over to my wardrobe, I let out a breath and opened the door to look.
I began to pull out clothes—mainly dresses but they all seemed way to over the top for a dinner date at home.
Time slowly passed by till I heard a knock on my door. "Kenna, are you okay?" Catrina called out. "Do you need any help?"
Fuck this, she may have a good idea of what to wear. Hell, the last date I was on was to a fancy place in the city. Let alone it ended up all being lies from what my ex did. But Adrian seemed to not be like that asshole. He seemed a lot better and more of a man too.
"Kenna!" Catrina called out again, bringing me back to her.
Clearing my throat and looking at the mess I had created on my bed, I let out a sigh. Knowing I needed help, I walked over and opened the door to find her looking at me. "I need help with what to wear," I said, pleading. "Please help me. The last time I was on a date it was to a fancy place, and it was hell."
Catrina's eyes stayed on mine but soon softened at my words. "I'll help," she said, looking into my room and her eyes landing on the bed where I had thrown loads of my clothes.
Catrina came in and went to my bed, while I closed the door when the scent of food hit my nose. It smelt delicious out there, I wonder what she is making.
Like she was knowing what I was thinking she told me what she had made. "I made chicken, leek and brown rice stir fry. It's quick and easy to make. You had all the ingredients for it too, which was handy."
My eyes went to hers and widened slightly. "You made that. It smells delicious."
Catrina laughed. "Thank you. It is Lewis's favourite and even Adrian's too. I make it every other week when they had a long day."
I smiled.
Catrina looked at me and grinned. "Well, at least you will have praises from Adrian too. It will go down a treat. And I also made something small, a microwave mug cake. Easy to make and again, you had the ingredients."
My favourite, which made me smile. "I love making one of them when I fancy cakes. I used to make them when I was younger."
Catrina looked at me and smiled. "Well, you can't beat a mug cake."
Laughing, I headed back toward the bed and stared at the clothes. "What should I wear?"
Catrina didn't even say anything, which made me look at her. She was staring at two dresses. "I think a dress and a short one. You need to show you like him."
That got my cheeks flushed slightly. When she looked at me, she grinned. "Come off it, Kenna and no lying to me. How do you feel about Adrian? I mean, he has stayed here during the storm and helped you with your roof."
Does everyone know about him being here? Knowing this is a small town, I had a hunch everyone knew. You always read it in small town romances.
I looked at her before clearing my throat. I might as well talk to her about this, since she is someone I class as a friend and I don't have many of them around here.
"I like him," I said, which made her smile, but I continued. "But it has only been two days, I don't want to rush into anything with him."
"I understand," Catrina said softly. "But Kenna, when it is right, love waits for no one. Trust me."
That had my eyebrows knitted together, wondering what she meant.
Catrina looked at me and let out a laugh. "What I mean is, love comes when you least expect it and if it comes in a strong, tall and full of muscles then take it. Its not every day something like love comes along."
I said nothing, not knowing if love would be the word for Adrian and me but you never know but I do understand where she is coming from.
"How did you and Lewis meet?" I asked, wanting to know if she had any idea straight away if he was the one for her. "Was he the one you knew was the one?"
Catrina grinned but her face softened. "Lewis and I had that love at first sight time." Her eyes became distant, like she was remembering the moment. "I was out for a walk with my friend at the time. We had trained... I mean, went to the gym."
Catrina looked at me and smiled. "I wasn't looking where I was going, and I ended up walking into the damn man. Even fell over and landed on my ass. I was going to call him all the names under the sun till my eyes landed on his." Her eyes get that distant look again when she talks about Lewis, I had seen it a few times when they were together.
"Those eyes took me in, and I never wanted to leave," she said, looking at me. "Kenna, it doesn't matter whether it is love at first sight or weeks of dating. Nothing really matters until you start to get to know him and Adrian is one of the best guys you will ever meet. The nicest ones too. He will never hurt you, always will have your back and even look out for your needs."
I frowned. "Are you trying to sell him to me?"
That made her laugh. "Is it working?"
My stomach twisted at that. I didn't want to admit it was working, so I looked away from her. "What dress do you think I should wear?" I asked, ignoring the question she asked.
Catrina said nothing, only placed her hand on my arm which made me look at her. "Don't overthink Kenna. You will know if you like him, you just have to go with the flow. There is no right or wrong with this."
I nodded but let out a sigh. "Whenever I am with him, I get nervous and excited at the same time, even felt tingles run through me when he touched me. And not only that, but he also makes me—"
Catrina smiled and cut me off. "That's a good thing. Don't over think. You go with what you want and don't worry. Adrian is not the type to push; he wants to get to know you too."
That made it a lot better, even though I was grateful for her cutting me off when she did as I would have told her I wanted to jump him, and I don't think she needed to hear that.
This is our first date, that will have to wait and I just hope we can get through this one by just talking and getting to know more about each other.
I was about to ask Catrina something when a noise came from the kitchen, which made her move away. "I have to sort out in the kitchen," she said, walking toward the door.
When she got to the doorhandle, she stopped and looked at me with a smile. "Kenna, smile and just be in the moment with Adrian, this isn't a marriage proposal or anything."
I nodded and smiled, but before I could ask her what to wear, she told me again like she knew what I was thinking. "Wear the little black dress," she said with a wink. "It is comfy, and you can even wear no shoes. But it would be perfect for a little dinner date like this."
Once those words left her mouth, she walked out of my room and left me to get ready.
The black dress it is.
It wouldn't be too long, and Adrian would be here. All I needed to do was to stop overthinking, which is something you should never tell someone to do because they will keep doing it. I tried to calm down by breathing technique and it worked. All I needed to do was to tell my stomach from knotting and my heart from beating so hard in my chest, then we are good to go.
