KENNA
After telling Adrian everything, I felt completely drained.
How the hell does that work? All I did was talk.
Well all I talked about was what happened regarding my father. Knowing what I was going to tell him would make me sound crazy but when I finished, not once did Adrian look at me like I was unhinged.
In all fairness, he was quiet about it all. Though I didn't give him much of an option to talk since I left the room.
Taking the bowls and mugs back into the kitchen, I quickly made some more coffee. Keeping my back to Adrian was for the best, I stared ahead knowing I had to tell him why I came here. But telling a stranger everything seemed to be the best solution, even though there were clearly something between Adrian and me.
Whenever we touch, even slightly, tingles would run through my body like a form of electricity. It excited me more than I cared to admit.
Movement from behind me pulled me back from my thoughts and looked over when the kettle came to a boil. My eyes scanned around till they landed on Adrain, who was now looking at my little collection of movies.
Turning slightly to the side till my eyes went to the window, I stared out. Rain was still coming down. Hopefully it will be done by tomorrow.
I got back to the making the coffees, which didn't take too long. Reaching up slightly, I grabbed some biscuits for us to have with them.
Placing them under my arm, I grabbed the mugs and walked back to the couch, where Adrian was stepping back with two films to choose from.
His eyes landed on mine and showed them to me. "Pick one."
Staring at them, I shrugged. "Either one is my favourite, so it is up to you since you're my guest."
Adrian smiled. "Labrinth then."
Moving toward the table, I placed the mugs and biscuits down just before I sat down.
Adrian went over to the TV and got the film in the DVD player. "I haven't seen this film since I was a child," Adrian added as he joined me on the couch.
Looking to see what he was doing; he had grabbed the remote and pressed play while sitting a little closer to me. I could feel his arm go behind me on the couch but never touched my skin.
Would it be weird to want him to touch me? Not in a sexual way. Actually, I would rather either way since the man would be able to—
"So, are we using the film as background noise or we actually watching it," Adrian said, stopping me from my insane ramblings that were going on in my head.
I said nothing for a moment till the intro started. "I guess, having this as background noise for now would be okay."
I knew talking about what happened back in my old job needed to get out of my system since I still didn't know what to make of it. Maybe, Adrian could give me some advice or would have something to say about it?
Heaving a sigh, I turned in my seat and let my arm rest close to his on the back. Only mere inches away from his, but I still could feel the warmth from him.
Oh, how I would love to be touched by—
Stop Kenna. Talk first and then maybe, see what happens. You need to see what happens after this conversation.
All I hoped this wasn't going to be too much information to share with the man in one night and I was slowly wondering if he would take it all on abroad.
My eyes went to Adrian, who was now looking at me intently.
"I found a job that brought me more money," I stated, keeping my eyes on him. "Everything was fine and everyone who worked there were sweet. My boss was amazing, even seemed to look out for me, which was nice. Not many employers would do what he did."
"What do you mean?" Adrian asked, his head leaning to the side slightly.
"James often would make sure I was taken care of," I said but started to tell him what I meant.
"I never gave anything away about my past to James, Bailey, or anyone back there. I felt out of place there," I said. It seemed all for show when it came to me, but I wasn't going to tell Adrain that. Often or not, I felt like I didn't belong there.
"The only thing James helped me with was when I had a notice from my landlord needing three months' rent up front when I got there, which I didn't have. James must have heard or seen the letter laying around on the desk he had me work at since the landlord seemed to have a different attitude toward me when I saw him later that day. He had told me; he had the money and would send my rental agreement to my boss."
Adrian nodded when I stopped, like he was trying to get me to continue which I did. "When I asked what happened, James told me there was a misunderstanding since the realtor was someone who worked for him and that was not how he conducts business."
Letting out a breath, I looked over to the TV as I continued again. "Working there is completely different from what I do with Maddox. I did all the filing and that, but part of my job description was to plan, draw and research what would benefit the company or the town around us. With here, I would design a system on the computer for Maddox to sort through what is important and what's not. Even have a system for all the policies he has go through to maintain the town."
Adrain grinned. "I love how your mind works."
I felt my cheeks flush, while I look away from the Tv and to my hands instead. I was never one to take compliments well.
"Thank you," I stated and looked back at him.
"The other job needed similar designs too," I said when my face hardened slightly when what happened came to light.
"The thing is, I love designing anything and often would be doodling in a notebook. It could be anything that came to mind, even a person."
Adrian's hand came to mine, making the tingles erupted through me again, which I tried not to react as I stared at him for a moment, but he beat me to it. "So, you left because..."
I stared at him. Should I tell him about the relationship or what that asshole did?
Going with the second option, I began to tell him. "Well, the notebook I would doodle in would normally stay in a drawer in work since I hated to take it home as I would usually forget it. I had quite a few ideas in there. Ideas for the town and even the company. Things that would make more money for them. Only a few people knew about the notebook, and I guess I trusted to the wrong person since someone stole one of my ideas and used it for their own gain. Hell, they even got an award for it."
Leaving out I was used by the man, Adrian didn't need to know about that. It was embarrassing to admit. I let out a sigh. There was no way I was letting that asshole win or even think about him. He wasn't worth the air I breathed.
"Someone stole a design and used it," Adrian muttered, making me look at him. His voice was thick and sharp with something—disgust, or venom, it was hard to tell.
"That is not how we—"
Adrian stopped whatever he was saying while I watched him closely only to spot a flicker in his eyes which made me still slightly when Adrain let out some sort of noise, which sounded like a growl but before I could react or even say anything, Adrain got up and walked away.
"I need the bathroom."
His voice sounded strained.
What the hell just happened?
