ADRIAN
The entire day was being called making appointments, while fixing what I could.
Loads of the places around the pack needed work, whether it was a tree had fallen on top of a roof or there were too much flooding and people were stuck.
There were many people without homes till we could sort out flooding situations, but it would be a little while.
Each pack member had either come up to me with a list of jobs or had listed what they needed to me to do. Everything went into my notebook.
Not only that, but my phone had also been ringing off the hook. All the calls I had were either pack members or Catrina. None where off Kenna or Alpha Maddox, which seemed to have put me in a bad mood.
"Not the only one," Rafe grumbled, not liking the fact we hadn't seen Kenna much since we left her at the office.
Catrina mentioned she had been answering the phones and helping where she could. Some pack members had gone to the office building, demanding Alpha Maddox and even brought their children which lead to Kenna looking after them while they dealt with what the parents wanted.
The mere thought of Kenna with children, made me wonder what our children would be like. Fuck, I needed to stop with this shit and get back to work but nothing was helping me.
Rafe had fallen asleep many times while I was working on stuff I could do today, since he found them boring. But I did have to have him wake up and shift to help a couple who had a tree who had fallen in front of their drive.
Considering there was more rain than wind during the storm, there was loads of damage to the pack. I hated my job on types, especially now when it kept me away from Kenna.
A mind link came through from Alpha Maddox. "How's it going?" he asked, sounding tired.
"As well as you can expect," I muttered, letting out a tired sigh. "Everyone has a problem and there is one of me. I need help."
"I will get Lewis to help and even some guards too," he stated, trying to sound helpful. "Tell them what you need help with, and they can do whatever you need them to do."
"Okay," I said, knowing even though my brother may be the only one who could help since he knows some of my trades, the other pack members would only get in the way but since there were loads to do and only me, I would take anyone right now.
"Thank you for the help," I said, but then felt an unfamiliar emotion come through the link which made Rafe come closer, wondering what was going on. "What's up?"
The two words hung in the link like a fire waiting to be put out until Alpha Maddox let out a sigh. "I thought you should know I spoke to the that alpha and notify him of the state of the pack. He agreed to leaving a few days, even two weeks till we are sorted. I told him an appreciate it."
Frowning, I let out a grunt. "That sounds reasonable to me. Why are you so up in the air about that?"
"That's not all I heard," Alpha Maddox. "I think the alpha forgot he had me still on the line because I heard the next words from who I am assuming is the beta and the one who is calling Kenna is mate."
A low growl rumbled through me, from Rafe not liking where this was going.
"What was said?" I gritted, knowing I wasn't going to like what was going to be said.
Alpha Maddox took a few minutes and started to explain what was said on the call. "Well, the man sounded desperate and even begged to leave to get Kenna. When the alpha asked why he was so urgent, he stated she was his mate, but it was the way he gritted it out that made the alpha say the next thing. It's not about her being your mate, you would understand why the pack was looking after its own and even her. This had to be something else."
That was a loud assumption.
"Ad, the beta stated it was only about her being his mate, but he was worried about something he had given her when she was last there," he said, which made me wonder what the hell it was, but his next words had me halt what I was thinking and made Rafe growl loud. "Apparently, Kenna took the notes he needed for his project with her and now the project wouldn't work."
"That lying piece of shit!" I shouted, forgetting who I was mind linking.
Closing my eyes, I tried to calm down and let out a shaky breath. "Sorry alpha, I didn't mean to—"
"I know you didn't mean it," Alpha Maddox said with an amused tone. "I remember what you told me what Kenna said."
I said nothing.
"Adrain, the alpha told him not to bring it up again and even told him they would go when I say they can, which didn't end all to well," he said, sounding concerned. "The way he told him he needed to get whatever it was, but it was too hard to hear what was said when the phone had hung up on me."
Fuck.
"I don't think he would be that stupid to come here to see Kenna," Alpha Maddox said with an annoyed tone. "But we will be careful and have people to keep an eye out. We could state there was a few rogue sightings. I want to be wrong, but it was the way he was talking that had my back up."
There was a long pause till he spoke again. "Kenna has been a godsend today. She has been helping everywhere and has been too busy to do anything else."
Was he trying to settle my worry mind about her?
Before I could say anything, Alpha Maddox spoke again. "The only thing that has been weird is the way she keeps looking at this piece of paper," he said, which made my stomach twist in knots. She had my number, the one I gave to her earlier.
"Do you know what it is?" he said, sounding amused again.
Oh, that damn asshole knew.
"Have no idea," I muttered, which he let out a booming laugh through the link. "I need to go."
Before he could speak again, I closed the mind link and let out a grunt.
Rafe seemed to enjoy the conversation toward the end but said nothing. But he didn't take to long to speak. "It seems mate is trying to figure out if she wants to—"
His voice gets cut off when the ring of my phone comes. I pull it out and notice a number I haven't seen before. Swiping over the answer button and before I could speak, the person on the other end speaks first which made my heart spike like a damn fool.
"Hi Adrian," she said softly. "It's me, Kenna."
