ADRIAN
Hours passed by in a blur when you are dealing with dead bodies, and there were a lot of them. How the hell did Alpha James and his beta manage to get them all to attack? That question was bothering me. What did they offer them?
For rogues, money and power were key. Unless money was key here, then so be it but part of me wondered if it was something else. Something to do with our pack instead.
Neither way, not one rogue was left alive to interrogate about what happen, which is a good thing for now.
Rafe had been asleep for a few hours but only wanted to be woken up if we heard about Kenna or if we were allowed to go back to her. The mere thought of Kenna had my mind racing back to what happened at her home.
Every single detail run through. From what Alpha James had said to the fight. Everything was over power. Maybe the elders would have something to share about what this was all about.
"You are doing the face thing again, brother," Lewis said, shouting loud enough for a few pack members to look over at me.
Frowning, I look up at him and had to ask. "What face thing?"
"Thinking," he said, a slight smirk pulling his lips up which made me realise he was messing with me which made me glare at the fucker, while he continued. "When you think, you look like you are taking a long dump on a spike."
How the hell would he know what that looks like?
Rafe let out a chuckle. "You do look like that."
Fuck, even my Lycan is picking on me.
Ignoring Rafe for a moment, I stared at my brother. "I was going to ask how the hell you would know that but saying that we are on about the Lycan who actually did run and fall into a swamp when he was a child." That stopped him smiling, while I continued and a smile played my lips while remembering what happened that day. "Didn't you fall in headfirst, trying to be the big Lycan. Showing father that you could get over the damn thing, while we were learning a move."
Lewis let out grunt. "I was ten, you asshole."
"Yeah, and still, you couldn't jump for shit." I let out a laugh, which made me feel slightly better but then an image of Kenna came back and brought me back to where I was—a depressed sorry son of a bitch, who needed to know how his mate was. Fuck, I would do anything to hear her voice. Hell, even tell her all about Lewis and the swamp.
Saying that, what father would have his sons train near one, is beyond me.
"Made you laugh for a few seconds and then you went gloomy again," he murmured, coming closer to me.
I let out a sigh and looked back at him. "Kenna. She popped into my head and then I thought she would love to hear all of this," I said, looking away from him and then to the pack house. There were SUVs now parked outside. They not long came, which means Lewis and I would have to go into the office to talk to the elders, which is the hardest part and especially if the elders in question are older than this building. They hate dealing with alpha stuff, but this needs sorting, especially if I want my mate back. She would need answers.
Lewis came closer. "Maddox hasn't mind link to ask for us."
As soon as he mentioned his name, he mind us both. "Lewis, Ad, I need you to come to the office. Elder Frank is here."
"Only one elder?" I asked, which is weird since when something like this happens more have usually come especially when they had to think of a punishment. Unless there is also something put in place.
"It seems elder Frank already had suspicions about Alpha James and his pack," Alpha Maddox said with a sigh. "Come to the office. This won't take long."
After saying that, Alpha Maddox closed the link. Looking toward my brother who was also staring back at me with an odd look. "This sounds weird and unnerving."
I gave him a nod in an agreement.
We both walked away from where we had finished burning all the bodies of the rogues. We had taken pictures of all of them and even sent them to Alpha Maddox, which he will then place them up on a site for the missing.
Wolves can become rogues for any given reason, and some are on the bad side of the law. There haven't been any nice ones, which is weird to say about the men and women who just attacked us. There had been some rumours over the years of a few, some from alphas who like to state that not all are bad. There had even been an elder or two who stated the same too, even other shifters.
Shaking my thoughts away, I kept my head down till we got into the pack house and headed to the office.
As we got closer, Alpha Maddox opened the door and motioned for us to get inside. Once inside, elder Frank stood up and nodded to each other. "Hello, it is nice to meet you."
I gave him a small smile, while my brother stepped to him and shook his hand.
Elder Frank nodded and then looked at me. "You're the Lycan that is mated to the human who is involved in all this."
Giving him a nod, he nodded back before he let out a sigh and sat back down on the chair closest to the desk. His eyes went between us all. Lewis decided to sit near him, while Maddox was sitting behind his desk where he belonged. I stood and was leaning against the wall. There was no way I could get comfy, not with Kenna not being around me.
No one spoke for a moment till Elder Frank looked toward me. "How is your mate? Is she..."
"Not speaking to me," I muttered, which is partly true. "How would you feel if you watched someone you knew and been with turn into a wolf. As a human."
Elder Frank stared at me and nodded. "I understand and I know she will get through this. She's your mate, she will. Even if you haven't marked her, the connection between you will be strong and she will come to you soon. There will be no denying that."
My eyes move from the elder to Maddox, who was staring at me and a link opened. "You and Kenna mated, right?"
"Yeah," I said and was about to say something else, but Maddox beats me to it. "The bond has started now, she will want to see you soon, you'll see."
There it was the hope I was looking for, that my mate will come. I just have to pray that she will be with me soon, not days or this will be hell on earth for Rafe and me.
Elder Frank cleared his throat, making me look toward him as the link to Maddox closed. Elder Frank moved up in his seat and turned slightly toward me. "Shall we begin? Tell me everything and I will tell you everything I have on this matter, regarding Alpha James and his pack."
Rafe came closer, just so he could see and hear what was happening while I straightened up. Well, let's get this over with.
