ADRIAN

Leaning back, I rest my head against the wall.

Being in the cell was like watching paint dry, except with a man who glared at me. The same man who claimed Kenna was his mate, not mine.

Rafe was still on edge but had calmed down more than what I was. I guess when you have someone stare at you since everyone else left, it does that to you.

There was no way of knowing how long we were down here.

Here before the silence, the man kept blaming me for what happened. Telling me Kenna would choose him all the time since she had no clue about our kind.

That might have been the case, but I have spent time with Kenna. We have gotten to know one another since.

"Stopping overthinking," Rafe muttered, making me sigh inwardly. "He has been trying to get under your skin to make you second guess yourself and our mate."

That made perfect sense to us. That was why I never spoke to him. The sooner we calmed down the sooner we could get back to Kenna.

I knew Lewis would look after her, while I was in here.

Being this long and far from her, played heavily on my heart. She was constantly on my mind. I could picture her making food for us, while I stared at her ass while she swayed to whatever was on the radio.

"Mm... I like that image," Rafe murmured, sounding intrigued.

Trying not to let the image infiltrate my mind since there was no way I needed a hard-on. Not now with that dick in front of me.

We sat there for a few moments before the door to the cells opened and someone walked down the steps toward us. The man opposite moved up, thinking it was for him since he had that stupid smirk on his lips, but it soon vanished the second Maddox stepped into frame. He looked between the both of us but stayed on dick for a moment too long, which made me wonder what the hell was going on with him till he spoke but more authority in what he said to him. "You are staying in here since you don't know how to show respect to the alpha that is taking you in." He stared for a moment. "Also, you don't have no say and neither does your alpha. He is confined to his room till we have a chat later this evening."

"You can't keep me in here," asshole shouted, making Alpha Maddox growl. The man stopped and submitted in response but was not clearly to thrilled about it.

"Oh, I can," Alpha Maddox gritted, stepping closer to his cell. "And you know why."

The man gulped and looked like he wanted to piss himself, which would have been good to watch. Rafe laughed, agreeing but we kept our opinions to ourselves and I kept quiet the entire time my alpha came in.

"Since you didn't answer, I will happily tell you. I can keep you in here because I am the alpha of this pack," Alpha Maddox growled, which made the cell tremble at how loud he was. "You are not moving from here till I have spoken to Alpha James, then it will be all depending on that."

Alpha Maddox stared at him for a moment before turning around to me. He nodded and then came to the door, then opened it. I moved from where I was sitting and walked out the cells, when dipshit spoke again. "Then why is he being let out."

"That would be none of your business," Alpha Maddox growled, making the man step back from the cell gate and glare at me but soon changed his tune when he saw Maddox watching.

I said nothing, just followed Alpha Maddox out of the cells and straight back to his office.

Neither one of us spoke. I knew why he kept me in the cells since he knew I would have done something stupid or worse killed him. I needed to calm down and that's what I did.

Rafe was close, not liking the fact we couldn't go straight to Kenna but we both needed to know what happened when we were locked up, especially needing to know what happened to Kenna and what was going on with her.

Once we were in the office, where Lewis was waiting. I stepped in, looking relieved to see my brother. He came over to me and gave me a hug.

Moving back, I smiled at him but looked at him for a moment and had to know. "Where's Kenna? Is she safe?"

"Kenna's fine," Alpha Maddox said, making me look at him. He looked back, while sitting behind his desk. His face softened. "I am sorry I had to place you in there with him. I knew you would either kill him or—"

"I'm not bothered by that," I stated, stepping away from Lewis and took the seat behind me. Even though I sat down most of the time, it was nice to have a comfy seat now than the ones in the cells since they are made of stone. "Jackass was spewing things from the time you all left till he wore himself down or realised I wasn't even listening to him."

Alpha Maddox looked at me for a moment and sighed. "Alpha James got in my face, so I sent him to his room to calm down."

Well, that shows what kind of Alpha he is. A dumb one at that.

"More like a bitch," Rafe whispered in my head, but I ignored him.

"What about Kenna? Where is she?" I asked, looking between Maddox and then at Lewis, who was the one who spoke.

"Like alpha Maddox said, Kenna is safe. Catrina went to her place and got her, told her something along the lines that her boss was here and her ex, which confused her," he said, which made me look back at him with a frown, but he continued. "Catrina thought on her feet with that one and mentioned Alpha Maddox, or her boss in Kenna's case, wanted to promote her to a new position and needed to know more about Kenna, which resulted in contacting her old boss."

Well, that would work.

"Kenna is now staying in a safe house closer to the pack," Alpha Maddox said, making me look at him with a raised brow but he grinned and leaned back in his chair. "She thinks she is staying with Catrina and Lewis, not for the men showing up here but more for the wolves."

"Cat thought saying there was a few sightings of wolves that have moved closer to her house, it would persuade her to move in with us, and it worked. Cat also helped her with packing and is even staying there now, having food and some sort of girlie night."

Well at least my girl was safe and in the best hands.

Rafe huffed.

"Are you going to talk to Alpha James?" I asked, locking eyes with Alpha Maddox, who only nodded but sighed.

"Yeah, but not this evening. All involved need to rest and come at this with a better attitude," alpha Maddox said and moved from his chair. He stood for a moment and smiled. "I will have both of you in on that meeting, first thing and no Kenna. Keep her in the safe house till we know more of what Alpha James knows."

Lewis and I nodded, moving up from the chairs while Maddox spoke. "Now, if you will excuse me, I have a mate to see," he said and then looked at us with a grin. "And so do you both."

I let out a chuckle, while we all left the office.

Once we were outside the office, I stopped and sighed. "I want to see Kenna, but I need food."

"We'll go to the hall and have food there," Lewis said, while we started back up walking. "The girls have already had food and are watching a film. We can leave them to it. Catrina will mind link when they are ready."

That was better than nothing.

As much as I wanted to be with Kenna, I needed to have food and then I was all hers when I get back to her. Not only that we may also even get to shine the light of why the asshole is set on making my mate his when we talk to his alpha.
