ADRIAN

I went about my day for the last few hours and even finished Kenna's roof.

The hardware store had everything I needed. I got back and went up on the roof.

While I worked, Rafe stayed quiet most of the morning until Alpha Maddox opened a mind link. "Hey," he said. "What you up to now?"

"Hey, finishing Kenna's roof," I muttered, placing the last slate on. I had already changed the gutters before I attempted to fix the roof. "What's up?"

Alpha Maddox sighed.

"The alpha contacted me and wants to meet me," he said, which made Rafe move up and listen in on what was being said. I stopped what I was doing and listened while he continued. "I was wondering if you would come with me. There was a situation in the lobby, and I had to have Catrina sort it out, but—"

"What situation?" I asked, knowing that could mean anything related to work, but part of me wondered if it was related to Kenna.

Alpha Maddox stayed quiet for a while until he let out a sigh. "The reception girls had a lot to say about Kenna," he murmured, which made me growl. No one knows who she is to me until I tell them, but it is awkward when your mate is human.

"Don't worry," he muttered, knowing he was rolling his eyes at how I reacted. "The security guard's mind linked me, and I managed to let Catrina know before Kenna came into the office to see me. No one knows she is your mate yet. The girls had it in for her, and seeing you drop her off at work sent them over the edge since she has been working with us. They can't be more wolf-like, their words not mine."

I rolled my eyes and looked back at Rafe, who had a displeased expression. The big mutt would make them suffer for causing any hardship toward Kenna. "I will," he grunted. "There is still time."

Damn, the mutt is like a hound.

Ignoring him, I sighed. "Where are you meeting the alpha?" I asked.

Alpha Maddox huffed.

"Well, it's not a meeting as such," he growled. "He wants to video call before he comes. He wanted to know how she was and would tell us what we needed to know, but he did mention that she didn't know what they were. He kept that part a secret and made sure she only worked with the beta, his secretary Bailey, and three other wolves who knew she was human."

Well, that didn't go in my favor, her not knowing about us, but at least she had no clue she was in a werewolf pack. It wouldn't have mattered, but it may have caused more problems.

Shaking my thoughts away, I spoke. "What time is the video call?"

"In half an hour," he murmured. "It will be in the pack house since I didn't want to do it around the office, especially when Kenna could walk in and find out. I don't know what is going to be said."

I could understand that.

"I will meet you at the pack house," I said. "You take the call, and I will listen in. We don't want them to know about her being my mate until we know more about them."

"That's sounds fair," he said. "I will see you soon."

Alpha Maddox closed the link, which made me look around and see what I had to do next. There was only one more slate to do, and then I could head off.

Knowing I had to pick Kenna up, I wanted to get her groceries since she may not have much time since she was at work. I wanted to help.

Rafe moved in my head while I worked. I could tell he was off, which made me look back at him with a frown. "Are you okay?" I asked, which made him grunt.
