ADRIAN
Catrina and I spoke for a little while about what happened, and after I finished, she let out a sigh before speaking. "It sounds like she has a hard time trusting anyone."
"Yeah, that part was true," I muttered, looking around her lounge till my eyes rested on the bottom shelf of her bookcase. There was a line of books, not reading ones. Ones you could write in. Did she ever write about what happened to her in them?
While my thoughts raced over, Catrina spoke up, which made me listen when she mentioned Kenna. "I think going on a date with Kenna will break the ice between you both," she said, while I let her words sink in. "Don't let her do all the talking. You need to talk about you too, and as Lewis and I know, that is hard for you."
Rolling my eyes at her meaning, which was true, but I was willing to do anything to make this work between us. "I will do anything for her."
Catrina's mood changed slightly through the link, but she quickly recovered. "Okay. Make the reservations for the Italian place in the pack. I can plan with Maria, who owns it, to put the two of you away from prying eyes."
Fuck, I forgot about that.
Pack members frequent that restaurant, and if they ever saw Kenna and me together, they may start asking questions. That wasn't something I needed or for Kenna to—fuck, I was beginning to sound like a woman.
"Adrian, stop stressing. Maria can make something happen. All I have to do is explain to her that Kenna is human and doesn't know what we are. She will understand since she has done this so many times for other pack members."
Hearing that made me stop panicking.
"Now," Catrina said, sounding more amused. "As for today, bring your mate to me and we can work together in the office. You can drop her off and then deal with whatever is needed from you. You'll be busy for the next few hours. Let me help."
"Okay," I mumbled, not liking the fact that I was agreeing to not seeing my mate for a while, but leaving her alone was not going to be an option.
Letting out a breath, Catrina and I continued to talk for a bit longer when I heard the bathroom door squeak open and told Catrina I had to go. My eyes darted to the door as soon as I closed the mind link, Kenna stepped out of the shower in just a towel.
Fuck, my cock went hard at the sight.
Her legs were on show. I could tell she hadn't dried them since water droplets were running down. My eyes stayed on her legs, then went up slowly till I saw her turn around in time for our eyes to lock on each other.
Kenna's face heated up, while I felt my mouth go dry.
What the hell was this woman doing to me?
The block that was holding Rafe had slipped, and he came closer to the surface, then howled. "Wow. Our mate has great legs."
Ignoring him, Kenna started to swallow before she cleared her throat. "Um... I'm going to get dressed."
Without missing a beat, she turned on her heel and bolted right into her bedroom. Closing the door behind her, but I caught her looking at me before it closed.
It was taking everything in me to control Rafe and myself, not to go in there and claim her.
Not taking a chance on doing that, I got up without a word to my damn lycan, who seemed to hum a tune while I made a run to the bathroom, grabbing my bag from where I left it.
Once inside, I dropped the bag and headed to the sink. Leaning on it, I took a look at myself.
Being with Kenna during the storm was a good idea, and now I had to navigate what we were to do next, which seemed and even sounded like I was making excuses for everything. But I wasn't this was something I needed to do, and all before that alpha and beta came to see her.
Praying Alpha Maddox had gotten hold of them about not leaving and coming here for a little later, it would give me a chance to win Kenna over.
After reflecting for what felt like a few moments, I let out a sigh and got undressed. Turning slightly, I got into the shower and had the quickest one I have ever had. Once out and dried, I got myself dressed in some black sweats and t-shirt. There was no point in anything else since I had a funny feeling, I would be way to busy dealing with the aftermath of the storm.
While in the shower, Rafe continued to hum that annoying tune and said nothing to me which was for the best while I took one last look at myself, I grabbed my things and placed them all in the bag. Opening the door, I stepped out to see Kenna standing by the kitchen counter with a plate of pancakes.
Hearing the door to the bathroom, she looked over at me while I placed my bag back down and walked over to her, only to find there was a stack of pancakes in the middle of the table. "I made enough for us or more like, enough to feed an army."
I let out a chuckle, while I grabbed some and ate them.
Kenna smiled.
"Well, she seems to—" Rafe started to say, which made me look back at him with a pointed look. "Don't start."
Rafe rolled his eyes at me, while I looked back at Kenna. She had finished her plate and was placing it in the sink.
I knew I had to tell her what was happening today.
"Maddox and Catrina need you in the office to deal with complaints for the town people," I stated, which made her nod with a smile. "I will drop you off since Maddox has to give me a list of what I need to do."
Kenna nodded again. "Do you know how much damage was caused by the storm?"
I shrugged. "Only a tree so far, but more calls will be coming in all day. So, you probably will be managing the phones and getting a hold of people to help."
Kenna stared for a moment before she spoke. "Looks like it is going to be a busy day."
"Yeah, sure does," I muttered, finishing off the last pancake. Grabbing the plate, I moved away and placed it in the sink while Kenna stood next to me.
Not giving a moment, I stepped closer and caged her against the counter. Her eyes went wide, while I leaned close to her ear. "Thank you for the pancakes, angel. They were delicious."
Kenna gulped, while a smile played on my lips. Keeping my head by her ear, I knew she could feel my breath on her skin till I moved away and took a step back.
Kenna looked slightly flushed, like she had done a marathon. Her eyes stayed on me for a moment before clearing her throat. "Shall we go?" she said, moving away too fast.
Rafe let out laugh. "Yep, you definitely broke mate."
A smile played my lips, while I followed my mate out of her little house.
