ADRIAN
Slamming the bathroom door behind me, Rafe slashed against the walls that kept him inside my head while trying to get out to comfort her. He was losing control over what she had said about someone stealing her work and everything else we had learned this evening.
Why would someone do that?
That would have never been happen here. If you had plans or even ideas about how to help with making this pack safe or even a working adventure for us, Alpha Maddox was all for listening. There was a way to go about it, but he always made time to hear everyone's vision.
Yeah, not many people had good ones.
When Kenna had brought up Alpha James and how nice he was, there was something in the way she was backing him up. He may have been good to her, like every alpha should be when someone joins the pack, even though I don't think Kenna knew it was, or this would have been a different outcome or story.
It is by law, if a human, whether they are mated to one of us or have lived in a place where werewolves have moved to without knowledge of humans being around, no wolf can throw them out or take advantage of them. That part was true since they shouldn't know what we are unless it has been accidentally shown, or they are mated.
Cleary whoever did what they did, wanted to move up in the ranks of the pack.
Leaning on the sink and counter, I closed my eyes and looked back at Rafe who was now standing tall in my head.
"You can't keep doing this," I stated, his dark eyes locking with mine. "Kenna has no idea who we are. That part is clear."
Rafe frowned. "She mentioned wolf events."
That part was true, the wolves from the time her father was last seen. I wonder who they were. She may not have known what they were, judging on how she was telling us. But she has been around our kind a few times without realising or even noting things going on.
"That might not mean what it sounded like," I said, trying to believe my own words and trying to get him under control.
Rafe rolled his eyes and stared. I wasn't backing down on this with him. He couldn't come out, not in front of Kenna. Not until we could tell her what we are, and that would have to wait till we know more from Alpha James.
Everything she had said was a lot to take in. I had to tell Alpha Maddox, but it had to be done in person. Even telling alpha James what she said about someone stealing her idea may stop him from coming here.
"Maybe that would work," Rafe said, sounding a little too hopeful.
I said nothing till I let out a sigh. "We know she is human. We have to do everything the human way, so why not start doing it?"
Rafe stared at me but nothing. He knew I was right, judging on how defeated he was.
Looking back, my eyes went to the mirror. I knew I had to go back out there and that's what I did.
Once I knew Rafe had calmed down. I flushed the toilet to pretend I was in there and headed back out to Kenna, who had paused the film and was now staring into the distance.
Sitting back down, I turned and looked at her while placing my hand in hers. "Kenna," I said, making her shake her head and look at me. She gave me a small smile while she began to speak. "Are you okay? You rushed away, I thought I—"
I didn't want her to blame herself; this wasn't about her. This was about what I heard and what she went through.
"I'm sorry," I said with a small smile. "That was a lot of information to take in. Nothing to do with you and also, I needed the restroom, very bad."
That last part made her relax slightly while I grinned at her, to make it sound authentic, which made Kenna's lips curl up slightly.
We sat in a slightly awkward silence until Kenna spoke softly. "I know what I told you was a lot to take in and I think I'll leave it there for tonight. Maybe we can make another night of it, board games, more food. Hell, wine too."
An idea formed in my head, which would be like a human way to most. Without even thinking, I blurted out what came to mind before I even though whether it was a good idea. "Like a date?" I asked, which made her stare at me with slightly wide eyes.
Kenna rolled her lips before she answered, which felt like the longest few seconds of my life. "I guess, you can call it a date."
The corners of my lips curled up slightly, while Rafe seemed to have settled down since being next to her. "Date with mate?" he murmured in my head, but I said nothing. There seemed to be some hope.
Clearing my throat and pushing my luck a little more, I moved slightly in my seat. "I will call it a date. Once the storm has cleared, let me take out. Show you the town we have."
"I already seen the town," she stated, looking at me confused.
I shook my head. "No, not my showing you haven't. I want to take you to places you may never have thought about. You know there is more to this place than meets the eye and the scenery itself has more to offer."
Kenna stared at me for a moment, wondering where I was going to take her. I knew most of the places she went but there were a few she missed. Maybe seeing them would help her see more of the beauty around her. This place would bring in tourists from all over if we were ever to advertise our pack, but that would mean going through the channels of elders and alpha leaders to make it happen.
"Okay," Kenna said quietly, making me smile like a goddamn cheshire cat. "I'll go on a date with you."
Grinning, while Rafe jumped in my head excitedly. "More time with mate and not because of the storm." That part was true, and it even excited me too.
"Great, I will get planning," I said, moving to sit back with my back against the couch. Moving a little closer to Kenna, who seemed to have been sitting normal now since I got back from the bathroom.
Moving my arm to the back of the sofa, I glanced at the film. "Shall we continue with the film, or do you want to watch something else?"
Kenna looked at the other film and motioned toward it. "Can we watch that one now, please?"
I said nothing and got to changing the film over. Once done, I sat back next to Kenna and pressed play while we sat watching the new film—The Prince's Bride.
There wasn't much of a choice on films to watch, since most of them were romance once or even child like ones. Things like the Labrinth, free willy and never-ending story. Ones that most children our age would watch.
Leaning back slightly, I kept my eyes focused on the film while trying not to think about what Kenna had told me today. This is probably the most we have ever spoken to each other since we have met. And now I have her with me, or even near me, I don't think I could ever not hear her voice again.
The film went on but halfway through, Kenna's head moved to my arm and rested there till I started to hear soft snores fill around us.
My mouth twitched slightly, but happy to know she felt comfortable to fall asleep on me.
There was no way we were moving her. I would sleep like this with her too, even if it was one night.
Listening in to her snores, it settled something in me which made my eyes start to get heavy suddenly till I was sent into darkness, where Rafe let out a yawn. "With mate is better for us."
Those five words were all I could think about while I fell asleep next to her.
