ADRIAN

"A mind link from border patrol guards. Rogues circling around the area but not coming in." Lewis's word echoed around in my head.

"I'll go and see what is happening," his voice continued, wondering what the hell was going on. Rogues don't circle a pack, not unless they are trying to get our attention and right now, they have. Something doesn't feel right.

Maddox's spoke next, giving out his orders. "Lewis, you go and see what the hell is going on. Report back to us everything that you find." Lewis agreed and left, while leaving Maddox and I still in our mind link. "Me and you will need to talk to Alpha James, and right now?"

"What about Kenna?" I growled, Rafe coming closer not liking we may have to leave our mate here alone.

"Catrina can watch over her," he stated and then let out a sigh. "Actually, they can head back to her house. Look for that notebook she was on about."

Anger rippled through, while Rafe was on the verge of coming out but Maddox caught on. "Keep that damn Lycan under control," he gritted through clenched teeth. "We can't afford to have Kenna seeing anyone, not even Rafe."

"I'm trying," I stated and was about to open my mouth to interject when Kenna's voice filtered through. "What's going on? Why has everyone gone quiet?"

Closing the mind link with Maddox, I look toward her and notice she was looking between Maddox and me till they stayed on me. "Are you okay? I hope this is not—"

Moving away from where I was standing, I move toward her and sit next to her on the couch. Grabbing hold of her hand, I look at her with a smile. "Don't even think about finishing that damn sentence, angel." I look to Maddox before I looked back at Kenna.

Rafe came closer, not to be seen but to watch her while I spoke softly to her. "Sorry for being quiet. I was thinking about things. Some of what you said don't make sense and I think we need to talk to your old boss."

Kenna frowned, making her look cute when she did it.

"Yeah, she does," Rafe murmured, which was odd thing for a Lycan could say about someone, but this was Kenna we were on about.

"Kenna, Adrian is right," Maddox said, pulling myself back from my damn idiotic thoughts. This is what the damn woman does to me, lose concentration about everything else around me and all my thoughts end up being about her.

Maddox continued. "We need to talk to your boss. I have some questions to ask him, some to do with the designs you were on about and not only that some other things he had mentioned, which now are not making sense."

"What other things?" she asked, looking over at him.

Glancing over to where Catrina and Lewis were, Catrina caught my eye and opened a mind link. "While you two were thinking, Lewis had to leave for work. Something came up." Her eyes were on me but looked away when Maddox spoke, making us both look between Kenna and him.

"What he said is nothing for you to worry about, Kenna," he said with a small smile. "But I do need you to do something for me, do you still have the notebook with what they are looking for?"

She nodded, but Maddox looked at Catrina and her. "I want you to go with Catrina. Try to find it and bring it back here. We will come here after we talk to James, and once we are done, we all can come back here and decide on what to do."

"You're not letting him take it, are you?" she asked, sounding worried.

Looking at her, I move my head to the side. "Shouldn't we?" I asked, knowing there was no way they were getting whatever she had created. That was hers, but the way she said what she said, had Rafe and me know there was more. Something we knew there would be.
