KENNA
I don't know how long I had been sleeping, but it was the best night sleep I have had ever since moving here.
The only thing that was weird was I knew I wasn't in my bed; I was still on the sofa.
Memories of the night before came flooded back and soon realised I was leaning against someone—Adrian. How long were we sleeping like this?
Opening my eyes slowly to adjust to the light that was flowing into the room, I blinked a few times before I looked ahead and moved slowly, not wanting to wake Adrian.
My eyes went instantly to the man, who looked more handsome with his eyes shut. How could that possibly be?
The mere thought of him sleeping next to me never bothered me, it was how comfortable and safe I felt. I never felt like that in years.
I kept staring at him. Taking in every feature the man owned until he spoke, which caught me off guard and made me shoot up from the spot I was and looked back at his dark eyes boring back at me. "Like what you see, Angel," he murmured, a smile playing on his lips.
Fuck. I got caught.
My cheeks blushed a red colour as I moved away from him, only for Adrian to stop me by placing his hand on mine. Stopping, I looked back and stared at him.
"I don't mind you looking," he stated, grinning. "It makes me wonder if you like me."
That last part caught me off guard, and made my eyebrows shoot up to my hairline.
He wondered if I liked him. That part would be normal to see on someone like him, surely? I did and the last two days have proven that since we spend the entire storm together in my home.
Looking to the window, there was no rain. All sunny. The storm had gone.
"The storm has stopped," I said, motioning to the window which made Adrian look. His face went blank, then something soon registered in my head. Adrian won't be here any longer. This was all for the storm, to make sure my house stood the test of time and rain, which it did.
Clearing my throat, I looked around until my eyes went back to him and noticed he was now looking at me. "I think I will have to phone Catrina to find out what is happening with work and what the roads are like," I said, not really wanting to go back to work just yet.
I must admit, I have loved every minute of the man being here. It has made me realise how much I have missed having someone stay or even be close to me.
Adrian filled that void for a few days during the storm. Hell, I spoke about things I never thought I would to him.
"You don't have to ring Catrina yet," he murmured, his face slightly formed into something I couldn't read while he continued. "There may be damage on the roads or trees down. You don't know yet."
I stared at him, while my lips tugged up slightly.
Was Adrian worried about my safety?
"Why are you acting like—" I asked, but he frowned.
"Kenna, there was a storm. There is also after affects when something this major happens, even floods," he said, letting out a breath. "Which also means I might be busy since I am the only handy man around."
I said nothing.
Taking a moment, I let out a sigh. "Okay, I won't ring her."
Adrian looked at me, while he gave me a sheepish look. "Well, you know what this means now right. I have to leave."
Those words made my stomach churn slightly, wondering why I wasn't looking forward to having my home back. Living on my own, like before. Even when I was thinking about it, it didn't settle well within me.
Keeping my face neutral so he wouldn't know how I truly felt, I shrugged. "So, back to normal."
Adrian looked at me, while his face tensed. He clearly didn't like what I said but he quickly recovered and spoke. "Well, not too much back to normal."
Well, that confused me.
What the hell did that mean?
Adrian watched me for a moment before he sighed. "How about you have a shower and get dressed? I can ring Maddox and Catrina to find out what's happening around and what they would like you to do."
"Why would you be ringing them? They are my bosses," I stated, which only made him grin back.
"They are also mine too," he said smugly. "There is no point in the two of us asking questions. I can ask for you and tell you once you are done."
"Don't you think they will end up saying something about you being here with me," I asked, wondering what the hell my boss, the mayor would say. Does he mind employees helping one another? I was thinking about dating, but we aren't there yet.
Adrian moved suddenly and leaned closer to me, only leaving a mere inch between us. His eyes bore back but slightly changing, which made mine widen but he didn't move or even say anything. It was like he was looking into my soul for moment until he spoke.
"You know, I liked us sleeping together," he stated, which only made my cheeks flame at his words. "I mean, it may not be in bed but having you near me helped with my sleeping, or lack of it I had."
That was weird, it was like we were thinking the same thing, but he continued. "You know, even if this storm has gone. Don't think for one second I am gone from here."
That made my eyes widen and move back slightly, while he grinned again. "Once everything is back up and running, angel. I want to take you out on a proper date."
"A date," I said slightly to hoarsely. I didn't know what to make of it.
"Yes, angel. A date. A date where I take you with your fine ass out and treat you as a princess, wine and dine you till you are full. Then make sure you are back to your door at a reasonable time," he stated and ever so full of himself.
"What do you say, angel?" he asked, cocking his eyebrow up slightly in protest.
I said nothing, only keeping my eyes on him.
After not speaking to him, he rolled his eyes and placed his finger and thumb to by chin. Pulling me closer till I could feel his breath on my face.
Oh, how he smelt heavenly and not long after waking up? Oh god, my breath smells bad, he shouldn't be having me this close to him.
"Well, say yes to my date offer," he asked, keeping his finger on my chin but when I didn't say anything. He continued to talk, trying to convince me I believe which I didn't need any of it.
All this was because my brain wasn't functioning right, and it was hard to process what was happening.
How the hell do you tell someone that without sounding like a complete idiot?
