Third point of view.
Today was one of those rare days when Sano Manjiro actually decided to attend class.
Not that it made much of a difference.
His attendance was a disaster, and even when he did show up, he never paid attention. But today, as he sat there, arms crossed and head leaned against his desk, he found himself regretting even bothering to come.
His half-lidded gaze drifted toward the window, watching the clear blue sky stretch endlessly above the schoolyard. The sun burned bright, birds soared weightlessly, and everything outside looked peaceful.
But inside his head? Not so much.
You hadn't answered his calls.
You hadn't responded to his texts.
At first, Mikey had shrugged it off. Maybe you were busy. Maybe you just didn't feel like talking. He could respect that. But as the hours dragged on, that excuse stopped making sense.
And if that wasn't enough to piss him off, Baji wasn't answering either.
A slow, steady rhythm began beneath his fingertips as they drummed against the desk. His gaze flickered toward the teacher, who was busy scribbling some meaningless equations across the board. The words echoed through the room, but to Mikey, they might as well have been static.
His patience had just about run out.
The sharp scrape of his chair cut through the silence as he stood. The teacher faltered, mid-sentence, chalk frozen in place. A few students dared to glance his way, eyes flickering between him and the exit.
With a lazy tilt of his head, Mikey slung his bag over one shoulder and made his way to the door, moving as if he owned the place. And in a way, he did.
Not a single person tried to stop him.
They all knew better.
The moment he stepped into the hallway, his pace picked up. His mind was running through possibilities, each one worse than the last. You weren't someone who just disappeared. If you weren't here, if Baji wasn't answering--
His jaw clenched, stopping his thoughts at once.
Your school's corridor was a familiar sight, yet it felt foreign. He'd walked these halls before, months ago. Back then, Draken had been beside him, and they were here to pick you and Takemichi up after class. He could still hear the whispers, the way students subtly moved aside, making way for him.
That part hadn't changed.
People still stepped back when they saw him, stiffening, lowering their heads, whispering beneath their breaths.
But today was different.
Draken wasn't with him.
Mikey didn't hesitate when he reached your classroom. He didn't knock but simply slid the door open hard. The sound slammed through the room, cutting the teacher's words short, making students flinch in their seats.
The moment his sharp gaze swept across the room, the energy shifted. Tension thickened the air as his expression darkened.
You weren't here.
His frown deepened.
His tongue clicked against the roof of his mouth as his gaze snapped to the nearest student, a girl sitting near the front. The moment their eyes met, she froze.
"L/n Y/n. Where is she?"
The girl swallowed hard, her fingers curling around the edge of her desk. "S-She.. didn't come today." She spoke in a whisper, eyes darting away from his intense stare.
