I splashed water in his face. Then laughed at his look of dismay. «Tell me everything», I insisted.

Snape wiped the soaped up water from his face and sighed, «this wasn't what-»

«Come on, I want to know», I said and crossed my arms, then poking his chest with one of my bare feet. We could barely fit like that in the tub, our backs to each side of it. «Especially since you're avoiding it, and trying to distract me with sex», I added.

He let out a huff, took my ankle in his hand and sent me a glare that looked dangerously similar to a threat.

«Let go», I laughed, «you're not just about to drown me, are you?»

Snape gently put my foot back into the water. «Don't be silly», he muttered, «is asking for a bit of peace and quiet too much? The Ministry-»

The bathroom door slammed open.

«Dad!»

Snape startled, sloshing a wave of bathwater over the side as he instinctively reached for his wand. I yelped, grabbing the edge of the tub with one hand, to keep from sliding under, the other I used to cover my breasts.

Luna stood in the doorway like a whirlwind in pale blue pyjamas, eyes wide with the usual dreamy urgency. «Oh, sorry», she said, as if walking in on a naked couple mid-argument was like stepping on someone's knitting project.

«Luna», I said in warning and glanced to Snape, whose brow twitched in that just-one-more-thing-before-I-break-something way. «Would you kindly knock before-»

Snape cut in, «-barrelling into rooms where people are clearly occupied?»

He sunk a little lower into the water like it might shield him from the absurdity of his life.

Luna blinked. «I did knock, I think. Maybe it was just in my head», she said and stepped halfway into the room, unbothered and barefoot. Her hair was half-tamed by a braid. «I was looking for dad».

Snape's eyes closed in visibly agony. «And naturally the most logical place to find him was in the bathtub? With us?»

«Well, no», Luna said thoughtfully, «that would be a bit odd, wouldn't it?» She cocked her head at us. «But I looked in the guestroom, your study, and the cupboards. Anywhere. And then I heard voices, and I thought perhaps he had found some company. Maybe Nargles, or even Wrackspurts. They like small spaces», she explained.

Snape scrubbed a hand over his face, muttering something unrepeatable under his breath. I could almost see the last threads of his patience unspooling into the bathwater.

I gently nudged his hip with my foot under the water, giving him a look saying something along the lines of... please stay calm.

«Luna», I said, trying not to laugh, «he is not in the cupboards. He was sleeping last time I checked».

«Well he is not anymore», she said softly, her tone edged with something more serious. Her gaze flicked between us. «The bed was empty».

Snape's head snapped up. Finally realising what was going on. Water sloshed again as he sat upright.

«What?», he barked.

I scrambled in the tub, grabbing a towel and nearly slipping in the process. Luna just stood there, calm and immovable, like she was about to announce the weather. «I don't know where-»
