Wednesday sped down the road, the instructor clinging with fear to anything he could. Wednesday pulled up to some large front gates and hit the brakes, bringing the car to a screeching stop.
"I look forward to our next lesson..." Wednesday said as he climbed out of the car.
He approached the security window of the Willow Hill Psychiatric Center and addressed the guard inside.
"I'm here to see Tyler Galpin."
The man laughed and turned to his comrade. "Hey, check it out. Another one of those weirdo fans who wants to get a look at the Hyde. Quit wasting our time, and find someone else to obsess over."
"I already have someone I obsess over. So I would appreciate it if you would stop insulting my taste and wasting my time." He slammed some files onto the counter. "Tell your supervisors Wednesday Addams is here. That's Addams with two D's. Like padded room."
The guard's mocking face fell and he picked up a phone and began to dial.
...
Next thing he knew, Wednesday was sitting across from the desk of a woman with long brown hair, and a wide smile.
She tapped a candy jar on her desk. "Jelly bean?" She offered. Wednesday just stared at her, not in the mood for jelly beans. "Well, I am impressed. As someone who is a stickler for proper form etiquette, you have left no box unchecked."
"This isn't my first time with the criminally insane." Wednesday told her. "When can I see Tyler?"
"Hold your horses. Dr. Fairburn will need to make that call." The secretary told him.
"Is that Tyler's handler?" Wednesday asked bluntly.
The woman furrowed her brows. "Handler? We're not a zoo."
"You're right. Zoos don't pretend that animals can change their nature with electroshock therapy and daily drug cocktails."
"Dr. Fairburn is the chief psychiatrist, and a pioneer in the field of Outcast mental health. I have her book here somewhere..." she stood up and grabbed it off the top of a shelf. "Her book, 'Unlocking the Outcast Mind' it's required reading in medical schools around the country."
"Is Dr. Fairburn and Outcast?" Wednesday inquired.
The secretary shook her head. "No. Why does that matter?"
"It's like a vegetarian writing a book on cannibalism. Always been skeptical of psychiatrists."
"Me too." A voice agreed.
Wednesday stood up and turned to the door, seeing a woman with dark skin, short curly black hair wearing a white jumpsuit.
"Hello Wednesday." Dr. Fairburn greeted. "Tyler has spoken of you often."
"I hope my name leaves a bad taste in his mouth." Wednesday replied.
Dr. Fairburn looked to the secretary. "Thank you, Judi." Then looked back to Wednesday. "Walk with me."
