Chapter 6: Masquerade Ball

Nevermore was buzzing with guests as students and faculty alike hurried into the ballroom to enjoy the gala. Everyone was dressed in costumes that mimicked the 1700s style and had masks to go with them.

Morticia, Gomez and Pugsley entered the ballroom, looking around in amazement.

"Was it worth the wait, my darling?" Morticia asked.

"Bellissimo, Cara Mia." Gomez praised. "You have outdone yourself."

It was true. The room was filed with candelabras, thick velvet curtains draped the walls, long tables of food were placed together to make one long table, and there was a long but narrow pool of water that stretched from underneath a large stone bridge to the center of the room.

As everyone was drinking and chatting, the lights around the pool lit up, and some curtains pulled back to reveal a boat coming out from underneath the stone bridge that stretched over it. Principal Dort stood at the front of the boat, dressed in a blue 1700s suit and hat, greeting the guests while Hester sat behind him in the boat, looking bored.

Gomez, Morticia and Pugsley pushed their way to the front of the crowd, surprised to see Hester there and Dort spotted them as the boat stopped at the end of the pool.

"Ah, bona sera, Addams family." He greeted. "Your mother has already made herself the belle of the ball."

Hester stood up in the boat with help from Dort and addressed the crowd. "I'm firing the board and reinstating corporal punishment."

Dort nodded awkwardly. "Yes, lots to discuss later."

Hester and Dort climbed out of the boat and while Dort went to go socialize, Hester stopped by her family. "Where's Wednesday?"

"We're barely on speaking terms at the moment." Morticia's reluctantly admitted.

"Well, now you know what it feels like, Morticia, to be despised by a child whom you've given everything. At least we have that in common."

"There's Wednesday. And (Y/n)." Pugsley spotted.

Sure enough, they all turned and saw Wednesday entering the ball, (Y/n) on his arm.

Wednesday was dressed in black pants, black shoes, a white undershirt with a black vest and coat with added gold details. His hair was slicked back slightly, and he had a black mask over his eyes.

(Y/n) had on a beautiful black dress with matching black shoes. The dress had a puffy tulle skirt and sheer sleeves that reached from her shoulders down to her wrists, and gold detailed lines that flowed from the top to the skirt and created a pattern that looked like a spider's web. Her hair was styled, and a black band was atop her head that had a small sheer veil that was in front of her eyes. She wore a black ribbon around her neck, and Wednesday's scorpion brooch was attached to it.

"You look stunning, Cara Mia." Wednesday commented, holding her close to him as he approached his family.

"Look at us." Hester commented. "One big unhappy family." She came up to Wednesday and whispered. "I put your seat right next to mine, as I need your input on the list of teachers to terminate."
