Chapter Twelve: Chocolate comes from from cocoa, which is a plant

Maxine's heart was pounding. Her palms were sweaty and her breathing fast and weezing in her chest. Her white dress fell past her feet and the band of white flowers in her hair smelled of springtime, but it wasn't doing anything to calm her nerves.
This was it. She was about to go on stage to perform and she was even more terrified then her audition. She kept running through everything the singing coach had told her in her head, desperate not to forget anything. Holly and James were just going on now, she could hear the judges talking to them.
She wanted to talk to the boys, but they'd already performed and they were on the other side of the auditioirm, watching from up behind the cameras. Maxine took a deep breath, trying to steady her racing heart.

"You should have had some chocolate before coming down here." The makeup lady said, smiling at Maxine in the mirror.
"I can't." Maxine answered. "It's got too much sugar in it." It was an automatic response. Something her mother always said.
"Chocolate come from cocoa." Said that makeup lady flatly. "Which is a tree. That makes it a plant. Therefore, chocolate is salad!" Maxine laughed. It felt good to laugh. It was a distraction from her nerves and the sick feeling in her stomach.
"Can't argue with that logic." She said.

By the time the last few notes of somebody that I used to know finished playing and James and Holly were sent back stage amongst cheering screams of the audience, a microphone was being pushed into Maxine's hand. The makeup lady brushed on a few final touches and straightened her flower crown before the big double doors were opened onto the stage.
"Good luck!" The makeup lady whispered as Maxine walked past her. The brightness of the lights was almost blinding.
"And now for a soloist who captured the hearts of our judges in her audition. Singing Birdys Skinny Love please give it up for Maxine Waters!"
The cheering was almost defining as hidden by the shadows of the stage, Maxine sat herself down on the garden swing hanging from the stage roof. She gently began to swing herself as the lights changed to a soft blue and the first notes of the piano started playing. Maxine had been practising all week with the stage performer, learning how she would be singing the song. She got to sit on a swing for most of the performance, so she didn't mind. Swinging gently in the soft light helped calm her nerves. Bending her head so her hair fell over her face and twirling white rose in her fingers, she began to sing.

Come on skinny love, just last the year. Pour a little salt, we were never here. My my my my my my my my my my my. Staring at the sink of blood in Christ Vermeer. Told my love to wreak it all. Cut off all the ropes and let me fall. My my my my my my my my my my my. Right in the moment, the stories told.
And I told you to be patient and I told you to be fine. And I told you to be balanced and I told you to be kind. And in the morning I'll be with you, but I'll be a different kind. Cause I'll be holding all the tickets and you'll be owning all the fines.
Come on Skinny Love, what happened here? Circle on the hope and light brander. My my my my my my my my my my my. So is full, so slow on the spit.

And I told you to be patient and I told you to be fine. And I told you to be balanced and I told you to be kind. And now all your love is waisted, then who the hell was I? Cause now I'm bracking at the bridges and at the ends of all your lies.
Who will love you? Who will fight? And who will fall far behind?
Come on Skinny Love!
My my my my my my my my my my my.
My my my my my my my my my my my.
