To say I died of embarrassment the next morning was probably an exaggeration. But did my face feel as hot as the sun…yes.
Jess had never returned to our room that night, probably too mortified that she had caught River and I in a steamy make out session. I slept the entire night with River’s arm around me. I woke up every couple hours in a panic, forgetting it was River before catching my breath and falling asleep again cuddled up beside him.
When I had woken up officially, he was gone, and I was mildly disappointed but this wasn’t the first time I had woken up alone.
Jess had knocked on the door a few minutes later and cautiously entered. It had been awkward for all of about two minutes before she burst out laughing at me. She apologized for interrupting River and I’s ‘fun’ last night. I rolled my eyes at her, not liking how amused she was.
When I had asked her if she had seen River that morning, she quickly sobered up and told me that he had some early morning radio shows that he was visiting.
“Those should be interesting, after what happened last night.” I mused, thankful that I didn’t have to do any more interviews today.
“Oh ya. Mason told me about the little screaming match you too go into after you guys sped away from the scene of the crime and how you both ran in here.” She winked, suggestively.
I threw a pillow at her.
“That’s not what I meant and you know it! Get your head out of the gutter!” I warned her. “Sure we fought and then we made up but nothing happened.”
She seemed oddly satisfied with my explanation, letting the topic drop so we could both get ready.
Jess was either always talking or really quiet. I wondered what was bugging her to make her not as lively as she usually was.
After showering and a quick breakfast, we headed to a large television studio.
Showing my face to Mason and Drew was embarrassing. Mason couldn’t stop himself from making countless sexual innuendos and I sat there, gritting my teeth, and taking it like a champ. I secretly hoped that he would just get it out of his system so we could move on.
Drew on the other hand was silent and judgmental. He rolled his eyes every time Mason made a joke, probably hoping that Mason would eventually loose his voice too.
I avoided looking Drew in the eye the entire time we were in the car and even some of the time we were at the studio. I felt too sheepish and ashamed around him, even if River and I really hadn’t done anything.
Luckily, my attention usually had to be directed somewhere else that day.
River was scheduled to perform on a hit singing competition and of course the band and I would be supporting him. I was pleased that we would get to play again; the high one got from playing in front of an audience was unlike anything I had ever felt. I didn’t need drugs to get buzzed, singing and performing was enough for me.
We spent the entire afternoon practicing and going through rehearsals. We were going to be playing River’s latest single and the studio had set up a ton of production like lights and lasers for the show. It was a different experience being an act on a television show.
I got to meet some of the contestants on the show and spent time talking about their individual styles in music, where they wanted to go in the future etc. Shatter and these hopefuls were very similar with our hopes and dreams, whether they knew it or not.
As well, Jess and I got to meet the judges of the show, which was exhilarating as we were both big fans of their careers.
Eventually River showed up before dress rehearsal, striding in like he owned the place.
