I stared at River perplexed at what he was getting on about.
He rolled his eyes.
"Well we missed bus call."
I nodded, already figuring that out. Our interesting evening had carried on a lot longer than it was supposed to. From fights to sudden revaluations and even some heart attack inducing Chinese food; our night had practically seen it all.
Though I wasn't crying anymore, I still felt stricken with the news that Drew might actually have feelings for me. How was I supposed to handle news like that?
I thought we were the best of friends? But if I couldn't be what he wanted, would our friendship endure? Part of me was doubtful having witnessed Drew's resentment first hand. Another part of me dreamed that this was all some big misunderstanding and River and I were just horribly mistaken.
I convinced myself that the only reasonable thing to do was confront Drew about it. Fingers crossed, he would be as confused as I was and not have any feelings for me.
The dread I felt though at the very thought of having that conversation nearly brought on a panic attack and I had to concentrate on my breathing in order for the room to stop spinning.
"Are you okay?" River asked, watching me worried. "Don't worry, Jeff noticed before they got out of the city." River explained, optimistic.
I did a double take.
"They left without us!" I screeched, making River winced.
I pushed away my plate and put my elbows on the table.
"How did nobody notice we weren't there?" I questioned, astonished at the very idea.
River shrugged.
"Jeff was preoccupied or something, I don't know. None of security saw us leave so he just assumed we were in our bunks."
I blinked trying to let the idea sink in. That was a severe lapse in judgement and I'm sure Jeff would be getting an earful from Susan when she found out. That is, right after she's finished with River and I.
"Anyways, we have to walk back to the arena-"
"Good luck with that, I have absolutely no idea where we are." I chimed in.
He smirked.
"I think I remember...how hard could it be?"
I hoped he had meant for that question to be rhetorical because it was pretty obvious for me that it could be very, very hard to navigate ourselves on foot in a city we hadn't been in very long.
"Can't we just get a cab?" I whined, already hating the cold that lay waiting for us outside.
"It'll take forever to get a cab out here. Don't worry I'll take care of you." He smiled cheekily, his green eyes shinning.
I blushed slightly, taking a sip of coffee to hide it.
"Anyways, but there is a slight problem. There was still some fans hanging around the venue when the bus came back and somehow they overheard what had happened."
I frowned, confused at what he was trying to get at.
He leaned in, having trouble trying to word what he wanted to say.
"There may or may not be a pack of fan girls coming to find us."
My face remained frozen as I registered what he had said.
"Are you serious?"
He nodded, his mouth a tight line.
I giggled.
