The days that followed were torturous. Someone at the live show had let it leak that I had been ill which only add fuel to the fire. The paparazzi were much more aggressive and fans became crazed with getting their own piece of River. Security at the hotel was doubled and everywhere we went we had to hold credentials proving we were who we said we were.

River and I got mobbed one day coming out of a store and nearly were trampled to death. The fans overpowered the security and it was chaos. Luckily we escaped with our lives and a new sense of claustrophobia.

If that wasn’t terrible, everyone wanted to know if I was pregnant or not. River had gone on the record in multiple interviews that I was not but they continued to ask and prod into our personal lives. I was always so surprised when the women interviewing me would be so blunt and ask me straight out. Even if I was pregnant it’s a private matter and I would like to believe that a fellow woman would respect that. But unfortunately that was never the case.

It got so bad that three days after, our people warned the news organizations to stop asking if I was pregnant or we would walk out of the interview. After that they put a halt to saying it directly and instead just hinted at it. Of course, the paparazzi could not be threated so there was always that.

Luckily we soon got into touring and didn’t do as much press. My fake smile was starting to hurt. But to make matters worse, River and I were rarely left alone anymore. Apparently everyone in our team had become experts in River and I’s love life and thought it best that we avoid physical contact.

One time Jeff had even interjected when River had bumped into me.

“Do you guys mind not doing that in public?” Jeff had said bitterly.

River and I just starred at him like he was crazy until he walked away.

Everything was getting old fast and I was constantly frustrated.

“You need to relax Carter.” Drew said, looking up from a magazine as we sat in the green room together at a venue.

I groaned at him for calling me by my last name.

“Woah.” He muttered, returning his attention back to the article he was reading. He was wearing a baseball cap so at I couldn’t see his eyes. “I guess your hormones are all out of whack from this preg-“

“Oh bite me.” I snapped at him.

He was still doing his reserved, mysterious act.

“Calm down, I was only joking. No need to get all bent outta shape.”

I sighed, hating myself for being so irritate-able.

“I’m just…I’m tired of everyone watching me like a hawk.”

Drew nodded, closing the magazine and putting it away.

“You need to get away.” He suggested.

“Exactly.”

He stood up and offered me his hand.

I looked at it like it was foreign.

“What?” I was drawing a blank at what he wanted me to do.

“Just trust me.” He was being sincere but still, Drew and I hadn’t had a real conversation in weeks. I wasn’t sure what he was getting at.

He sighed.

“The least you could do is follow me, after you totally stomped on my heart.” He stated, trying to get a reaction out of me.

“Drew!” I cried, offended that he would rub that in when he knew I was obviously upset about it.
